So what bikes should soon to be released? We saw the Cannondale Jekyll, Norco Range(?), Nukeproof Giga(?) and the long travel Forbidden all with a carbon frame, so it shouldn't be long until they get officially released right?

I think it depends on manufacturing. The delays this year really set things back. I know Norco was wanting to release all their new bikes way earlier in the season (from source at Norco) but delays and lack of events killed their schedule. They don't want to release bikes that aren't available to be put out in the wild
Wonder if all these manufacturing delays could cause more brands to just manufacture in house. If it’s material delays that are messing everything up I’d understand but big brands could turn to in house if it’s just long manufacturing and build time delays.

From what I've understood its the problem with parts so I doubt each brand is willing to design their own forks/shocks, brakes etc...

I wasn’t just referring to bike brands. I think it makes more sense for these parts brands start manufacturing in house

In house manufacturing will only happen when the manufacture is in Taiwan or China the best example would be Chromag you can buy a Chromag Wideangle for I think $749 that's welded in Asia or you can get a Samurai that's welded by Mike Truelove in BC for $1634 & I really really want a Samurai can't justify it but it'll likely happen. its one of those here's my money things! So think about this because I have currently we pay about $1500-1600 for a asia welded full suspension bike(Commencal)if the manufacturers can't source quality product at a decent price are you ready to pay $3k or more for a Alloy frame welded in Europe?

Maybe a new Nomad Whistling
I saw this on a mtbr forum.

I don’t think we’ll be seeing any of those until Q1 or even Q2 of next year. Component shortages are making it impossible for bikes to be ready until at least early 2021 at the moment.

After all those years we might see all the companies releasing the bikes on the actual model year

It's interesting that nobody does more than 1 year product cycles. With bikes you could easily have the same bikes for sale for 2 years, do a mid lifecycle refresh with some new gear if it gets updated and do some new colors, then after another 2 years you're putting out a new frame.

Ordering and stock keeping would be easier, as you'd be ordering basically twice the number of parts, the marketing material would have a longer shelf life, etc.

I's say more and more brands are doing just that, Commencal and Banshee quickly come to mind but I believe there are more...

Commencal said they will ditch model years and release bikes when they are ready. Yet they still have 2020 and 2021 bikes on their site right now, so that went out the window...

As for the smaller brands, I think it's just out of necessity as they don't have the resources (personell and money) to refresh the bikes every year. And many smaller companies offer frames only with some equipment kits anway, so they just refresh the equipment kit and call it a day.

Just different parts packages. Fox, rs, SRAM, and Shimano all had releases for last year. Commencal along with many brands could be guilty of barely changing a bike And acting like 2 mm longer chainstays would totally change your life for marketing reasons. I think a lot of brands liked the idea of a “new model” every year but have realized most riders aren’t that dumb Or would be mad when they Spent 6 k for barely a difference. It wasn’t a good model for anyone.

An interesting theme is that many brands are offering no discounts on older models currently. Whatever bits of stock they have they seem determined to hold onto. Could be real hard to get a bike the next couple years especially if you are on a budget.

I am super interested in this new shorty ish tire, I have been running a shorty for the wet in some bike parks lately which works pretty good. However, roots and rocks seem a bit shaky on it and if it dries up and turns to hardpack look out. Interested to see what they do here...

Most of the big companies use a frame design for at least 3 years... Just component changes...

It's always been like that, frames have been for sale for up to 4 years with minor changes to the geometries and construction, but the colors and spec changed drastically. It's still the same. I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about keeping the spec AND the colors the same for multiple years.

Intense kind of started the last few years. The current carbine and tracer, as old as they are at 4-5 seasons, are only starting on their 3rd color run and the 2nd was only minor tweeks to the same over all look of the first.

Pole have the same colors and frame since 2018, and have explicitly stated that they do not want to follow model years. The spec on full builds are adjusted according to availability and awesomeness, but it is the same.

HI, I am developing a bike frame for my Final design project in school and would love to know your opinions on frame design. So I made a 7 question survey so I can get an idea of what you guys actually want out of a bike frame.

That was a pretty fun survey! I’d like to see the bike when you get it finished!

I beg to differ. Commencal, in the space of a little over a year they came out with 2x 29 DH bikes, 2x 27.5 DH bikes and one mullet DH bike.

The goat’s bike had a different rear end on it for the win. It was red and did not have the aluminum length adapter on it. Wonder if they got a mold to make the desired CS length without the need for an adapter.

What if that Carbon cover on Bruni's bike covers a weight? Orange played with it. A bit of central mass to help stability? What if that weight was on a moving system like that Yeti thing?
