I have a hard time seeing an automotive company stepping in, well Ford (Raptor) at least. World Rally has a very large following worldwide and Ford just lost Seb Ogier to Citroen because Ford wouldn't pony up a few million to match the Citroen offer, and that's auto racing... I have a hard time seeing them paying a mountain biker, granted it would be for quite a bit less money, but still.
Keep in mind that here in 'Murica sedans like the ones they race in europe aren't selling well and are rapidly being eliminated from American car company lineups in favor of more SUV's and pickups. It seems like a perfect time for Ford to start sponsoring an American athlete like Gwin.

Given Ford is about to start selling the new Ranger in direct competition with the Tacoma and Colorado/Canyon, you may really be onto something. If you look on the Ford website, they are explicitly marketing the truck as the vehicle for "extreme" sports and adventure enthusiasts.

Turns out it is not a good idea calling in sick for a meet the pros day organised by hope, which at least one of athertons was contractually obliged to attend. Only to then be seen on Instagram the very same day riding in wales.

Renthal are only interested in Kade, the marketing manager is a friend of Kade's dad the former mbuk pinner Tom Edwards

Plenty more to that one than just that with regards Hope!

Trek Factory Racing will most likely be on all sram next season. Seeing that both Enduro and XC have been at the fore front of development with them

Also if Mercedes is any indication, there is definitely potential in the downhill WC as a marketing vehicle.
I doubt their marketing strategists chose to partner with the UCI out of the goodness of their hearts.

The lifestyle SUV/Truck segment is growing, as was already said, but manufacturers are also actively targeting solvent Millenials with an active and outdoor lifestyle, as for example showcased by BMW and their Sports Tourer, which they refused to call a Minivan. Another example are Audi with the Audi Nines event, which is arguably a lot less prestigious than a worldcup team with Aaron Gwin in it, yet they cart a bunch of freeriders around a quarry with a dozen of Q7s and pay for all the shit the athletes need (ok, this is probably a lot cheaper than a WC team).
Gwin also did a commercial for Audi afaik a few years back.
I´d say car manufacturers are definitely aware of the value of downhill as a competitive action sport with deep ties to more toned down disciplines of mtb riding.
If you want to get the enduro/trail crowd to buy your cars and you wanna do it through image marketing, you use the most prestigious discipline, which would be dh racing.

Pretty sure Audi was throwing money (or at least a whip) at soderstrom for some time.

I think it is his local Audi dealer. Emily Batty is representing her local Porsche dealer, it seams. And Brage Vestavik on Dacia (from Norwegian distributor). Pro mtb-ers need some way to transport themselves and their bikes and stuff.

And AG did an Audi gig a couple years ago.

Hope were pretty (very) pissed off that she never showed for the Hope Womens Enduro, but there will be many other factors involved.

Completely agree with this comment. With Mercedes in the game, I wouldn't be surprised if other car companies don't want to feel like they are left behind. I feel like car marketing has a total lemmings affect. I'd also add that sponsoring a WC bike team is relatively cheap for a car company.. lease a few cars to the team for free and pick up the tab on some logistical costs for the team..

FWIW word is Volvo has been pretty happy with their sponsoring of the Volvo Ocean Race (they spend a lot on that), which I would argue is becoming a much smaller demo than the bike community.

Worth noting that GMC has been running an add for the Sierra with a dude on his roadbike during NFL games (not cheap) and a pretty conservative demo.

It looks like Charlie Harrison, Kade and Reece Wilson are all hanging out at the moment, and the bike in the background of the photo above has a Boxxer and what (to me) looks like a Bontrager G5 front tyre. That suggests to me that the three of them are going to be on Trek.

Gwin hasn’t really been posting much that would suggest that he’s hanging with them, or that he’s going to give up his Fox, TRP, Onza etc etc sponsorships to join Trek factory on full SRAM/RS. Also Neko is still out in NC at his bike park, rather than hanging with Charlie, Kade, Reece (at trek hq?).

I’d guess from current speculation that we may see an Intense team with Gwin, Neko and Jack Moir (maybe Dean Lucas too?) next year. With a Trek team of Charlie Harrison, Kade Edwards and Reece Wilson...

Sounds pretty close to what I've heard.

Thinking that Angel will go full sram with Vali and stay with YT forming the MOB v2, which leaves at least one spot open.

next year, at this time, we will be talking about Bruni moving to the Syndicate after Greg retires for sure Wink

Kathy Sessler, in a recent interview (think it was a podcast), when asked about which rider she would pick for the syndicate if she had the chance to choose anyone, she said "for sure Loic Bruni".

Amaury was picked up by Monster at the end of this year.

Given that the Syndicate concept involves to stick with very approachable and down to earth riders over a long period of time in order to build somewhat of a family vibe i can absolutely see Bruni filling Gregs spot at some point.
That would make them the most likeable and at the same time strongest performing team on the scene.
Loic and Loris are the new Peaty and Minnaar.
Greg and Bruni also seem to get along rather well, so i´m 90% sure that plan is already made and will be executed the moment Greg decides to retire.

I bet that would be the case for 95% of team managers.
