7/19/2026 12:31am Is that the rule? Are there rules? Because catalog snaps have happened heaps of times in the OG thread. Obviously don’t lose your job - but these are just brands owned by banks / syndicates / second generation founders nepo kids - and we are the 0.01% who care to see this stuff. newschoolers.com has an epic next year gear thread where everyone is sharing catalog snaps and tradeshow samples. I think this audience is hyper niche and most of the stuff on this thread never makes it past this group of weirdos. I’m sure bike brand product managers lurk...

7/17/2026 3:11pm I think 52% off a Fuel EXe is reasonable for a bike where you have to take the completely realistic risk that the company that makes the motor and battery will be defunct (or at least completely exited ebikes) before the warranty on all of the other parts is gone. On the Vail thing, I agree with Charlie. However, unless they figure out a way to turn things, we're going to see the off-loading of some properties. However, if I were Vail, there are a lot of things I'd sell off before Whistler Blackcomb. I just don't know where the...

7/13/2026 2:58am Three gears in the front and seven in the back could be the perfect ratio for mountain biking! It's almost like it would give you three different gear "ranges" using the front shifter- one for climbing, one for descending, and one for everything in between. And the chain alignment could be so much straighter without having to pack all your gears onto one super wide cassette. I wonder why no one's thought of that yet? I can't think of any downsides.

7/9/2026 2:35pm For what it's worth - here's Google's AI snippet asking about belt CVT efficiency: Belt-driven CVTs are 80% to 88% efficient in cars, and 70% to 75% efficient in scooters. They are less efficient than traditional manual transmissions (which hit 97%) because they rely on sliding friction to transfer power. However, their ability to keep the engine at its most optimal power zone balances out these losses.

7/9/2026 2:33pm excuse linking the "other site" but pretty funny given recent convo on gearboxes, especially claims about only being viable on ebikes https://www.pinkbike.com/news/gates-patents-a-cvt-gearbox-for-non-elect…

7/8/2026 5:23pm If they already have a way above average finished product (avinox mg), while they released the m2s a few months back, why couldn't it be that they also have semi solid state batteries already? By the way, that mondraker frame looks damn nice!!!

7/7/2026 6:15pm I have both a singlespeed and Zerode Katipo with 12spd analog Pinion gearbox. Constant drive lines FTW. Never having to worry about maintaining, hearing or shearing off a derailleur is far worth any drag compromise. Any noticeable "drag" is on gears higher than 6-7, plus shifting from say 5th to 2nd gear is instant, not a massive clunky chain moving event. That said I don't see current gearboxes being relevant for anything less than enduro or heavy duty trail bike applications. /2c

7/7/2026 6:14pm The average rider does care about efficiency, most just don't know how to articulate it. They talk about the bike feeling slow, or that they're working really hard on climbs, and making improvements to how efficient the bike is (mostly by going to faster rolling, lighter weight tires since most are on traditional drivetrains) makes a huge difference to their ride experience. Can't forget the average rider isn't smashing wheels and ripping off derailleurs all the time, and shouldn't build their bikes up like a lot of us do.
