The last World Cup Downhill of 2023 is here and it's happening in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada.
Vali has wrapped up the Women's Elite overall
We've been told there are only 250 points up for grabs (all coming from finals, no quali points), so lots can happen in the course of training, quali, semis and finals.
Top 5 points going into MSA
Loic 1518
Loris 1458
Jackson 1366
Finn 1320
Kolb 1262

weather doesn't look too favorable for the elite race weekend. it's still early, but maybe juniors squeak by with a dry race and qualifying could get dicey if afternoon moisture arrives. saturday looks wet regardless.
The thing I'm really holding out for is Cedric finally getting the terminology right about being up or down on time. Probably too much to ask though.
Also curious if he's able to show a tad more restraint in his commenting. I feel like every rider he sees coming down is able to win the overall...
I hope it's not the last year for MSA... I'm missing out the annual pilgrimage, this year, due to a broken collarbone...
I will be traveling to see the race in MSA. Cant wait!
At first I was a little put off by not offering qualifying and semi points, but I suppose they did that so that if the season is close (like it is) they wouldn't be awarding a championship for a quali or semi run. That being said it would have been even more interesting if they would have put all the points on the finals run. It would have made things a bit spicier!
As it stands now it looks like Loic only controls his own destiny if he finishes in 2nd or better.
Loris can take it home if he wins and Loic comes in 3rd.
Jackson is the champ if he wins and Loic is 8th and Loris is 5th.
And Finn is still in it. His math is a win + Loic in 19th and Loris in 7th and Jackson and 3rd.
High drama is on tap for MSA!
hated that rule when they went to it a few years ago...talk about worthless risk!
it is funny that even UCI seems to agree that one race for all the marbles is superior, but only at the end of the season...
(I'll still watch)
This is the exact info I've been looking for, being too lazy to actually calculate it myself. A tip of the hat to you.
After Vergier's whining about Snowshoe I'm mostly rooting against him now. Imagine Jackson or Finn winning the overall in MSA??!!??
Damn, I"d love to see Jackson take it.
It's not.
That would be the most fun result, but Loris in 5th and Loic in 8th feels like a steep ask considering how well they're riding. Stranger things have happened in downhill though, can't wait.
I took his comments more against the format than the track.. the combination drained the riders
still a ways out, but weather looking wetter for saturday now. just hope it's consistent for everyone.

NO points in the semi.......?
Think about that for a bit - kinda makes the point of how pointless the entire Semi thing is.....
SEMIs SUXX!!!
Loris was soooooo tired.........so tired....poor Loris.
I was hoping they'd slip Cedric some edibles at some point in at Snowshoe......
lol edibles. dialed dropped last night
If Jackson or Finn don't win I really want Loris to win. The Loris win would be to really piss off the Yanks that are taking it personal that he thinks Snowshoe is shit track.
Haha. I’m a yank and I agree with this. I think it’s more the Snowshoe is my home mountain crowd more than yanks in general. As a viewer, I like the variation in courses. I do prefer to watch the fast steep courses over slow jank, but that’s just me.
Without points on the line it will be interesting to see how the protected riders approach their semi run. We could very well see riders using it as a warm up lap more so than full attack.
One of the positive effects of the semi is the refinement of the starting order for the finals. Time spent in the hot seat seems to be at an all time low this year. With the potential of riders phoning it in on the semi we could see top contenders shuffled down the start order.
i predict with the weather they scrap the semi and run a 60 rider final in the morning.
Miranda Miller back on the big bike.
Or quietly unplug his mic.
The point of semis was to suck.
(Tinfoil hat on) ESO didn't want to do semis, they wanted to cut straight to 30 elite men from qualifying. They got negotiated into keeping 60 qualifying spots, but came up with semis as a half assed way to still end up at 30 riders in the final. ESO has no incentive to run semis well since they didn't want them anyway.
Now next year they will make a statement about how they have heard the negative feedback about semis and are stopping them for 2024 and cut straight to 30 like they wanted all along.
I don't think you've said anything there that requires a tinfoil hat, writing's on the wall. Every time a rider says the semis suck ESO rub their hands together.
Can’t wait to see Loris bringing the overall home !! He is such an overrated rider but still up there every years
I am a fan of every DH racer who gets into the start hut of a World Cup, but Vergier is an absolute hero.
Peaty gets a new rig
After seeing that bike I went to the list of entrants and scrolled directly to Pea... damn. A guy can dream...
