WDSRCR126 Added a reply to What fork for the new dh bike?

I have found the Ohlins to be my favorite so far. I have a Fox 40 on one bike but now have Ohlins on all of my others including Enduro and trail bikes. Once you get the settings dialed, I think they're the most responsive fork I've ever been on.

Dorado and DH38 are best forks in my opinion. Both are more tricky to set up than Boxxer or 40 but they will reward you if you like to tinker. Boxxer is easy and less adjustments. I enjoy the Fox damper and airspring but the 40 chassis is much to rigid for me, IMHo. I’m 175lb, Vet expert rider.

Cascade has nailed it. As someone who has a Spec truck I feel like he has some really good info. My brand new spec truck is 5300 lb with a 92 gal fuel cell and 525 hp. The speeds we hit things at are crazy. I always say its like throwing a hammer through the desert. The frame of a raptor is not designed to take the big hits. The reason the trucks are so heavy is that they are designed to take an insane amount of abuse. Plus the weight helps the truck settle into the holes instead of...

Nice to see pit bits in a format similar to Vital MX... Much easier to scroll through the pictures..

Smart money would say the US Open will be the weekend before the Lake Placid round.

is there a date for 2025 US Open (or the whole US National Series) yet? Trying to determine my MTB vacation schedule.

Love to see the amateurs.. They are the sport foundation. No races, no elite, no industry without them..

Awesome photos! I'm also pretty stoked to see so many people I have met and raced with from the Downhill Southeast series featured in the interviews and photos. Bailey Gunter, Jamie Tate, Jack Burnette, etc... All wonderful people and great riders. If you can make it to a DHSE event, do so.

I've got an Izzo Blaze, which heads in the Jeffsy direction. It's just about capable enough for some air time, but comes alive on flatter trails where it's about slicing and dicing between the trees. Not necessarily the greatest pedaller TBH, could probably do with a bit more anti squat

ya my issue is realizing that the 'BMX-like MTB' is just about dead in the current industry. and i've been learning a lot about how to retain that feeling even when smaller dual 27 designs are not being made. And that's what I found in the Izzo. And while the 29er Jeffsy probably wouldn't interest me, the MX version with that zippier rear end could be... an ideal compromise. I want my 2mm rear center reduction and my 275 wheel dang it! But given how tiny those changes are, longer travel and heavier weight can definitely sap the energy out...

There's been a lot of discussion in other forum topics about the cost of modern mountain bikes. As some high-end mountain bikes push $12-13,000 USD (non-e-bikes, just regular MTBs called "meat bikes" by one of our forum members 😂), there's a lot to be shocked about. On the flipside, there are still very capable bikes in the mid-$2000 price range and sales are often never-ending these days making MSRP often irrelevant. Since 2010, Vital MTB has put together our audience survey where you tell us about yourself and what you ride. Here are pulls of our survey from 2010, 2016...

both would be great! a bmx will humble you for sure, but once you get used to it, maneuvering the testy 20 inch wheels will make the dh feel amazing. I think you will have a quicker time getting used to the dirt jumper, as the wheel size difference is much smaller, but both are fun and great for bike handling/reflex training. hope this helps!

Moto guy here. I have raced offroad (enduros, HS, etc.) for 25+ years. I also ride and race bicycles a TON. A lot will come pretty naturally, a lot will also need to be learned. That Capra is a sweet bike. It'll be a bit of a tank when climbing but is completely capable of nearly everything you'll throw at...

I have been extremely humbled. I recently got my first mountain bike. I’ve always ridden moto and offroad type racing. (Dirtbikes) I’ve skated, skied. I’ve always looked at MTB and thought how much I wanted to do it but never really had the chance. I finally got my first MTB the other day and went on a nice mountain trail for my first time. I always thought I was in shape. I can run a prettt decent pace. I can do a 5k just fine. But wow. I realized how out of shape I was during the climb. I was...

This is very similar to my Uncaged 11 Izzo. I got rid of my Intense SniperXC for the Izzo. With light tires and wheels the Izzo is big XC bike that jumps. I sometimes think about a true XC race bike again but then remember the flex and geometry when the trail gets rowdy and lean back toward the Izzo...

It's absolutely all about how the short travel bike makes a lot of trails more FUN - the shorter travel and steeper HA combine to keep the wheelbase in check, IMO this is one of the key aspects that help these bikes carry so much more speed on anything but the steepest/gnarliest trails. Longer missions become so much more enjoyable as well, it might not feel like much when you pick the two bikes up side by side, but over the course of a long day of pedaling the reduced weight and general ease of moving around of the lighter...
