I was reading Goupil's post as implying AI had been used to write the OP. But according to zeroGPT, he's just the only human that uses em dashes!

Totally agree on your thoughts on "chemical grip" - I find that a Mary US has is maybe slightly stiffer rubber than Assegai MG, but the Maxxis rubber feels more like silicone bath sealant and really conforms, whereas the Schwalbe rubber almost feels like it has sand in it, so even if it doesn't mould to wet roots as well...
We've done this holiday as a family group several years in a row now. Wife, daughter and friends love morzine town as there's loads to do, nice little shops, cafes etc. Lots of off bike outdoor activities too - big public pool, tennis, via ferrata, white water rafting. I tend to get about 3 days riding and 3 days family...
My local trails are fairly steep, often wet or at least damp made of sandy loose loam, with lots of evil root nests. I find Assegai doesn't cut into soft surfaces enough to brake hard and I personally feel the compound, while it's really soft feels like silicone bath sealant and doesn't key into wet roots. The Argotal is a total cheater tyre on loose surfaces. However the tall knobs and less grippy compound just feel sketchy on cold wet roots - I could believe it'll be great in dry and loose. Which just means I run an US Mary...

MountainsOfSussex Added a reply to One bike to do it all?

I used to be in the one bike camp (Whyte G150, then Nukeproof Mega), but I ended up building the Mega up burly enough for enduro racing that out was less fun on the local trails. Now i run a Raaw Madonna and YT Izzo. The Izzo has sent me over the bars when I've tried to treat it like...

I can't speak for the other side of the Atlantic, but I've spent the last few summers on family holidays in Morzine and resorts near Annecy (with the bike of course). And sure, Morzine has a lot of bikes, but all the resorts are positioning themselves for families and "events" such as Harley owners meets. The lifts are promoted for...

I guess it's because people tend to refer to brakes by levers and calipers. But the lever is made up of the lever body (with the pistons and other gubbins) and the, well, you can't call it a lever lever, so I suppose it's a lever blade...

For me, Sharky's post is on that border of ok/not ok - he (I assume he) says beautiful rather than other more derogatory terms, but the question was about the kit rather than how attractive you find the rider. Let's face it, we were all expecting someone to say something far more objectifying about figure hugging kit, so if that...

What a cute water bottle. I think you should have waited until YT's out of administration before publishing, or at the very least not given it a score and rating until then. But maybe I'm naïve.

MountainsOfSussex Added a reply to Creak chasing - CSU vs. headset

7/1/2025 12:41am
I was convinced I had a creaking headset or CSU, as the sound seemed to be coming from the front of the bike. Turned out to be from the saddle rail clamp (my background is noise and vibration engineering, so I'm disappointed in myself for being so wrong!). So my advice would be make sure you've ruled out all the...
We might be measuring sag "wrong", but as long as we're measuring the same "wrong" every, time, that's a good start, but also are the bike designers measuring it the same "wrong" as us? Or when they say "use 28% sag", if they know it's 28% sag at the o-ring (even if it's designed for something else at the wheel)...

Proper enforcement will be impossible, so the authorities are eventually going to make it simple - no wheeled vehicles on mixed use trails at all anywhere near urban areas or in popular outdoor locations, regardless how powered. Slippery slope? We'll see.

Obviously it varies from country to country. In the UK we're already seeing kids wearing balaclavas ripping up our trails on Surrons. There are videos on YT of parents turning up at trail centres with their kids on Surrons. You also see them around town, riding on footpaths/pavements etc. There are also untold illegal conversions being ridden at high speed by Deliveroo guys through pedestrianised town centres. The police don't seem to give a shit, so I'm not holding my breath that the trails will be patrolled or that anyone will get prosecuted anytime soon.

I understand what you're saying, but with the MM being a great mixed conditions tyre, stiffer side knobs might make it worse on wet roots, which is one of the best features of the MM

Friends use the Leatt vest and they like it, it does get warm but doesn't restrict movement. I use the POC chest/back protector that goes outside my tshirt when I ride. I use it on big enduro days or racing and its fine to climb with. I like it being external because you can take it off to have lunch or for a shuttle, it probably is warmer though as its solid rubber with some slots in the back than the vests
