2/16/2024 8:23am For those without Instagram, first details on the Atherton aluminium AM170. Apparently more info is in MBUK, one of the few print publications still hanging on in the U.K. Unless anyone else gets there first I’ll see if I can have a quick skim through a copy on the shelves later today and see what else is said. One of the hashtags is ‘subtractivemanufacturing’ so like most people said, it looks like they’ve gone down the route of CNC machining the lugs, and presumably the swingarm. U.K. price announced as full build starting from £4800. It’s a lot of money...

2/16/2024 7:16am 4,8 kg (size P2), when Gen.1 was 3,7 kg (size P1) and already pretty heavy (my 141 weights a touch more than 16 kg...), I know that's only a number but that's a BIG number

2/16/2024 4:32am gen 2 161 page mentions over stroking to 174mm, nothing on the 141 but i wouldn't see why you'd but the 141 and overstroke it instead of just buying the 161. you need a 65mm stroke shock btw, stock is 60mm

2/16/2024 4:30am I haven't minded the TT kink in other shots, but side profile is kinda fugly here. As stated in the video, geometry is the largely the same, wish they made a P2.5 size with 475 reach. I have a Gen1 141 in P3, like the length in some instances, but is a little limousine feeling in tight stuff. I think a 465 reach is too short for me.

2/15/2024 12:24pm That checks out. I heard: 2024: New Stumpy (150mm trail bike, no more dedicated "evo" version) New Status (170mm newschool freeride, dual crown compatible, pretty similar to current version with minor geo tweaks) New "Epic Evo" or similar (120mm downcountry bike, sort of what the Camber used to be, carbon and alloy with smartweld tech) Some new e-bike stuff I don't particularly care about. 2025: New Enduro New Demo

2/8/2024 11:14pm From my experience with calipers, bolted vs mono block isn’t all that important as long as the bolted interface is done properly. That entails getting the fasteners as close to the rotor as possible and maximizing contact area between the two halves. Most the deflection should be between the joint/bridge and the bottom edge of the caliper regardless of how it’s constructed. In my mind for bikes, most the benefit of a mono block lies in packaging. Not having to worry about big bolts frees up space. The bridge across the center of magura calipers would be hard to fit...

2/8/2024 12:00pm I don't believe that is what's really going on for a couple of reasons. 1, rubber generally expands much more than aluminum when heated so adding heat makes the seal fit tighter. 2, when designing our calipers we found that without compression played less of a roll with pad retract than you'd think. Too little compression creates sealing issues and too much increases risk of compression set. What I think is mostly likely causing what they are experiencing is super hard braking. That happens to usually correspond with lots of heat. Since seal deflection controls pad retract, if you apply...

2/8/2024 8:23am Basically that's it. Plus some say it's more rigid with this kind (bolted) of construction, can't exactly explain why tho'. And yeah, it looks like we can add some mud protectors. But I think it's pushed on (EDIT : or better, a one-piece piece of metal or plastic clipped on), not bolted. Can't see a brake manufacturer asking for disasembling...

2/8/2024 8:16am I am no engineer, but I always thought it was because it's harder and more cost-prohibitive to machine a one-piece caliper for bikes so they are made in 2 pieces and bolted together. The larger the caliper the more bolts it needs to hold the two pieces together. I'm pretty sure Hope makes 1 piece calipers, I remember back in the day (early 2000's) that was one of the things that set them apart from other brakes.

2/7/2024 2:07pm If you don't give a shit either way, then you just don't give a shit. So the "not neat idea" option applies. For me this is just another example of how out of touch the UCI are. The sooner they are replaced the better. I pity the athletes that are taking part.

2/6/2024 11:12am I remember saying, almost word for word : "I will never own a bike that has 29" wheels. I don't see 29" growing in marketshare anyway". Today I've got some 29" wheeled bikes (and like them) and it's coming really difficult to find cheap and good 27,5" wheels. Same for Boost. And the exact opposite for Shimano Rapid Rise (yes...

2/6/2024 10:53am Still super boost. Doesn't bother me, but it'll bother others. The fact that, special edition pink aside, it's almost the same colors, baffles me... For the consumer that doesn't live on Internet forums like I do, going to be hard to spot the differences that make a new one worth the spend vs. last years NOS or a nice used one. I feel bad for their dealers.

2/6/2024 10:52am Figured I'd share my current experience with reach and stack going to extremes that feel like almost too much even at 6'4". I've been riding a bike recently with a 522mm reach and a pretty sizeable headtube. I don't have all the geo info yet, but it's the size the brand recommended for me. The stack is plenty tall with room to go higher, and I'm not sure if I want to. Being rearward and upright is nice, but when the reach gets super long, the front wheel feels planted but distant. I figured going taller on the bars would...
