Went to read the current rules and highlighted them below. Nothing about the team stuff has changed - it has been 15+5, and will continue to be. Rest your pitchforks on that. Protected riders going away good or bad, I don't know, I suppose the current top riders will have to put a bit more effort into qualies? The team kit color stuff has always excluded DH teams, guess they added DH back in. Nothing else really, Top 50 or National winner or continential top 3 whatever can compete makes sense - they want only the top athletes competing in...

Nice, one last thing that should go imo is the rear caliper position, Hope brakes won't fit and it's just a pain in the ass to adjust the caliper and work on it. other than that, pretty much spot on!

My 2cents. Pole had a huge issue with their first run of bonded bikes and effectively had to replace or refund most of them to my knowledge, I don't think a company that size can recover from that unless they are seeing huge growth/success/margins. Also, despite Pole being a very niche and out there manufacturer, their sales prices were way under many boutique brands, so their margins probably were not even that high. For Kona, they had huge success ten-ish years ago with the process line, the 111 was the media darling, but we saw loads of the trail and...

People thought Zaugg had left the company, but what actually happened was designers at Scott hid him by integrating him with his desk in the hopes it would provide his office with a cleaner look.

On the Shimano not ramping up thing: Very few brands and people in the bike world are manufacturers/have experience working in manufacturing. I don't think many decision makers from the brands wanting Shimano to ramp up understand the difficulty of increasing production volume outside of very few instances. There's the large time and cost investment of hiring, training, and supervising new people to operate existing machinery on a new overnight, or weekend, shift in a factory environment where you can die if you're not aware enough of your surroundings. Once you maximize the operating time of your existing machinery and...

If we can think back a few years (nigh impossible), everyone in the bike shop talk, comment sections, etc were crapping on Shimano for not ramping up production and "being a bottleneck" for lots of brands who couldn't ship their complete builds without a chain or cassette. We all like to think we had secret esoteric knowledge (common sense) during the covid boom, but far fewer of us did than we would like to think. It should have been pretty obvious that lockdowns would have some long-lasting negative effects on the world economy, and that the bike boom was caused...

Few broad (highly speculative) thoughts as it pertains to Santa Cruz. First, I think its a bit of a fool's errand to say a brand is no longer "core" because they've grown or a more affluent buyer all of a sudden has taken interest. Yeah, maybe its a little bit of a sell-out type of thing to see 52 year old dentists driving Sprinter vans owning your product, but my Brother in Christ, this is capitalism. To a degree this is the point. To add, the entire company is owned by a multinational conglomerate. So any thoughts of "soul" or...

Is it to late to add an "indifferent" option to the vote? It's kind of lame enough not to give a shit either way.

For Geo I'd say Chris Porter of Mojo/geometron. The first Geometron prototype still would'nt look too out of place nearly 10 year later.

Regarding suspension, except Leitner, you also have to think about Jim Busby of GT, as the RTS was probably the first mass produced full suspension bike that actually worked. Then came the LTS, which was popular for good reason, and the i-Drive, that was maybe the first effort to properly isolate suspension movement from the transmission, as early as 1999. GT have videos regarding this on their YouTube channel. Robert Reisinger of Mountain Cycle made the San Andreas, which was way ahead of its time, and of course you have Jeff Steber of Intense, who created the M1. Mert Lawwill's...

As far as I know, Gary Fisher has influenced MTB geometry twice: once in the 80's and then exactly in 1998, when Fisher bikes were the first to have longer top tubes and shorter stems plus shorter chainstays. They called it the Genesis geometry back then. Bikes typically had 120-135 mm stems on medium/large sized bikes, Fishers sported 80 mm. I think they also had custom crowns with different offset on the forks. Trek bikes had a toned down version of the geometry. And don't forget about the pioneering of 29” wheels, as it is also a geometry thing. Fishers...

I never post here, but have lurked for years. This years rumor thread has been so epic with so many fun high/lows. The very first world cup dh race I had access to live was South Africa 2011 when Qwin won "out of nowhere", and Warner was walking about eating his hat. I will never accept that he isnt on the verge of a comeback, and this year is no different. I wouldnt doubt him.
