Was your motorcycles anti-dive system electronic? Adding electricity and computers seems like a novel modification to an existing technology, and would warrant a patent.

I'm turning into a bit of a luddite when it comes to bikes and can say with confidence that I have no interest in paying all the dollars for this latest bit of fancy kit that does more of the job of riding a bike for me. That said, Daniel Bacon manages to make reading about patents interesting so Chapeau mon ami.

Vittoria has a MASSIVE tire factory in Thailand and they do plenty of contracted out manufacturing. And, it's been open for only a handful of years. Not that I know which brands but it supports your theory.

Technically fluid (oil) damping is a form of friction too. Viscosity os the 'friction' in the fluid itself and viscosity is what gives us the damping (the resistance of a fluid to flow through different orifices). Granted, it's very different and more constant compared to friction between solid surfaces. But the early automotive dampers did use preloaded plates to provide some damping in the suspension. Man, 34 degrees makes knobs hard as a rock. I was literally riding Kanuga earlier this week listening to my tires sound like football cleats on concrete over the roots.

I was told by someone who raced MX in the 90s that the main advantage of the USD forks were that the RSU forks were too long- to get 300mm of travel the lowers extended far below the front axle- think 2005 Manitou travis, but worse: 
This would make your fork a trench digger when you leaned over in the ruts. USD forks, since they telescope into the uppers, don't have this issue. I was persuaded that this was the main reason why MX switched to inverted.
