Kerry works for Bikeflights now. After Kona fired all the riders and team managers in June Bikeflights was nice enough to give Kerry a wrapped sprinter. They want him to actually enjoy bike racing in 2024, and they will be covering all his domestic travel and racing(he just has to be the face of Bikeflights and the events he heads to). His priority for race bikes next year are a superduper light FS bike for stage racing- and real CX bikes. Big ups to Bikeflights for supporting atheletes doing what they love.

Seriously incredible news, and to hear this is title sponsored by a massive, somewhat outside the industry company is even better news! I’m stoked to see where they take it. I hope it turns into a multi event weekend style thing, with XC, DH and maybe some slalom/pump track so we can have a now a days NORBA!

Throw in a NW Cup, DH Rockies, and BMDH round and we'll have ourselves the world's most diverse DH series (terrain wise). SoCal dust, East Coast grease, the high alpine Rockies, and PNW loam in a single series?!

What the UK calls a "country" is practically what America calls a "state", and what most of the world calls a "province/territory". It's not special, I'm a British citizen too and it is administratively the same thing, the English just have to appease Wales and Scotland by calling them "countries". So, still effectively regional racing. Albeit in a really small region comprising a smaller population than most American states. This isn't to criticize her achievements, I race non-professionally in a regional series and it is still very difficult. If Welsh Enduro wants to be a proper top-level domestic series it...

It is a disservice to other competitors to claim Ms. White has "multiple national level wins". R&R shows a single Elite/Pro category win for her, in a field of one, at Moelfre in 2018. She has some Open/Age group wins at a few BDS's and local enduros. White is a legitimate racer, her added social media presence and low investment requirement evidently means she's worth sponsoring. Claiming athletes need to get better at being like Neko is a bit silly. He's a great brand storyteller because the brand he represents is literally his story to tell. Being faster is still...

I full well know that it is a far better ROI to sponsor “influencers” over actual racers, and I know the industry has been and will continue to throw more money that way, but I’m still allowed to hate it. I get so bummed seeing sponsorship dollars flung at Instagram riders making average, run of the mill, background noise content...

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Gwin and John Hall going their separate ways. Gwin on a new bike and based in Windrock full time. John staying on in a formal role at Intense in California. Edit: but I’d personally love to see Gwin hang around and get a win on that intense.

Exactly. I’m all for people making money riding bikes, but it’s a bummer that sponsorship deal went to an Instagram “influencer”, rather than someone who’s actually out racing and trying to make a name for themselves.

Fair counterpoint. The package deal may bring in a more diverse audience whoch leads to better WB numbers which boosts athlete sponsorship capabilities. I like your optimistic perspective, although with the raising of registration and team fees, venue costs, closure of GCN, and format changes, and no changes to the purse, an optimistic perspective is hard for me to have. The constellation of changes that have unfolded make me skeptical that WB has the sports best interest at heart. I hope that they have a vision we don’t have this pans out in the long run. Keeping my hopes high...

Ok how is PVD still so relevant? Did I miss something back in the day when this guy was the chosen one. I mean he has cool ideas, but why do we believe him so much again.

In ‘22 I watched races live if they didn’t require we to wake up at 2am, and I watched the taped replays of every race usually same day, or the day after. In ‘23 I watched every Vital Raw, and maybe one or two of the winning run replays within a week of them happening, I’d have live timing up...
Unfortunately, even as we approach the year 2024, mountain bikes still take influence from road cycling instead of doing or using things that actually work. In my mind, this is why we still see 170mm travel bikes coming stock with 175mm cranks, one piece bar and stem combos, and one size fits all chain stay lengths. Road bike DNA is...
