I always ride with a protractor, a level and a folding meter-stick so when I see proto bikes on the trail i can run up and measure the seat angle. Makes it easier to go complain in the pinkbike comments before everyone else does.

Interesting test, thanks for doing it. Here are my thoughts: 1) Nearly without fail, amateur riders, even fast and aggressive ones will be faster over their entire trail ride choosing the fast tire with 'just enough' traction over the slower rolling higher traction tires. In fact, it's not even a small difference. 2) This 'Ripper' could really utilize the greater stability and traction of the gravity tires, this closed the gap considerably. Amateur riders would have been able to exploit less of this stability advantage and the time advantage to the trail tires would have been larger. 3) That's a...

The Evo LR isn't all that progressive but the Cascade link gets it there nicely. Since a coil shock is linear, a more progressive LR helps keep the bike up in it's travel a fair bit better, among other things. If you just ride chundery trails the coil shock will work very well with the stock linkage and this would be preferable even to having more progression. But if you like to go big, this frame sure likes the Cascade link, really with either an air or coil shock.

It adds up. My S5 Evo was under 30#s at one point. Now it's approaching 33#s and it's pretty WW. Inserts, better seat, longer dropper, coil shock, Cascade link which while the same weight as the stock unit requires a much heavier shock spring, it all conspired against me!

It is the air pressure that support your weight. Force (your weight) = Tyre pressures x contact patch area. Simple. 4/27/2021 12:03pm CL hubs are considerably easier to machine. Whether the hub manufacturer passes on this savings to his customers is yet to be determined but that is a legitimate and valid reason to prefer CL rotors.

"And if you, and then your weight, is connected to the bike through a point that sits below this point, you must push through some leverage to tip the bike." No. The "tipping point" is the ground. Even if the BB is below the axles, there is no "leverage" to push through. It's just lower, and this has less distance to move laterally for a given lean angle. A higher BB moves further laterally for a given lean angle, which could be good or bad depending on corners (bermed, flat, off-camber).

I would also be interested to see if you could model the effect of the Manitou hex lock axle. That makes a big difference to the torsional rigidity of the Dorado.

Really enjoy this sort of testing. Thanks for doing it. Of course the Peanut Gallery will take this info and try to apply it to their AM bikes, which isn't quite as clear cut with gravity and all.
