Here's what's going on. The midvalve (rebound piston bypass) on those fork dampers is pretty restrictive and gives a harsh feeling to the damping. The low speed rebound ports (LSR) are a bypass that works in both directions. Faster rebound also allows more oil to bypass the midvalve piston ports on compression and makes the fork less harsh. Conversely the more you wind in the LSR (low speed rebound) the more oil has to flow through the piston ports and the harsher it gets. The workaround is to use the HSR adjuster more than you normally would for rebound control...

On a few sets (Mono4 & Mono6 ) i have peeled it off and run raw stainless like the original Shimano XT 4 piston. Gawd help you if your routing isn't perfect and you saw through your fork stanchion or HT though. Running it internally...

I’ve been happy with my GR4s. Very quiet, great power with 220/200mm Hope 2.3 rotors. Bleed seemed easy to me🤷🏻♂️

If you want a tighter bite you can pressurize the system prior to closing the caliper bleed fitting. I use an old set of pads with the old sram pad spacer to get the pistons out and maximize the fluid volume in the reservoir. If you use a spring clip on the barb fitting you can move a lot of fluid through the system without fear of it popping off when pressurizing the system. Shares the same lever and master cylinder (EVO). Caliper piston area has increased 6% over the GR4, which translates to hydraulic pressure increase of 6%(just as GR4 vs V4). The benefit of the 6 pistons over 4, powered by the same master cylinder and lever, is finer control and modulation, much larger and stiffer caliper body and thermal mass, greater hydraulic thermal capacity as there is marginally more fluid traveling through longer fluid jackets/ports in the bigger caliper body. We have a winner! It was not the green seal (surprisingly easy to install honestly, at least compared to what I was told to expect) It was this little sucker here, washer that sits between the hub bearing and the free hub body. Such a tiny part missing caused so much grief lol. Shoutout to the LBS that was hoarding an old pro4 a customer left behind for giving me the washer for free.

Brake fade is also caliper dependant, a more closed off caliper will make cooling the pads harder than a more open caliper design. As for lever pull, Die Bremse and Dominions, as per this topic Dominions have one of the lighter lever pulls before the pads contact, but apparently require quite a lot of finger force (relative to other brakes) to generate adequate braking force. This just confirms to me a light lever pull really should NOT be a metric that we judge brakes on. It's the definition of a parking lot test issue. You brake with a considerable force...

The new Hope Evo brakes also use the same size threading as Sram Mineral Oil brakes. So you could order a Hope bleed cup and the Evo adapter if you wanted to bleed Mavens with it. I know because I did the opposite and used a new Sram mineral oil syringe as an improvised bleed cup for my GR4’s.

Much better imo, sort of self adjusting when one piston become lazy, they worked great, definitely my favorite pads trickstuff power

4/25/2026 2:16pm Even a simple pad change is so much better not having to unbolt the caliper or take the wheel out. After using MT7s, Hope V4 & Saint. The lack of toploading pads was the only disappointment i found with Tektro.
