Ha, yes, I suppose those are valid reasons for moving away from DOT. But surely you must admit it tastes far superior to mineral oil.

I only plan to replace the tires and the saddle which is all messed up/bent. The derailleur is currently leaking / wont shift and I am not sure how to fix it. We rebuilt and cleaned the regulator. That seems to work ok now. Might look for a new set of airlines to put on the bike depending on the cost / if I can find them.

I have been fortunate not to have to open the rear mechs. It's definitely worth investigating because it will likely only be a leaky internal seal. When you see how much the sets sell for it may inspire you to open it up and fix it. You can pressure test the shifters and mech plus hoses in isolation of the regulator if you make an adapter to go from your bike pump to the 4mm OD pneumatic push fit connectors. Only use low psi and use a spray bottle of soapy water on potential leak areas. You will see bubbles...

Cool that it hasn't been resto modded with modern parts. Smart idea to make a guard for the Airlines reservoir, they are thinner than a regular anti-perspirant can. I picked up 2 sets of Airlines years ago and i dread to think about trying to replace any broken parts. I was working on an adapter to run a different bottle, must get back on that.

Saw those pop up recently as well but hesitated to order. Definitely keep us updated on how the install goes and if it removes any slop on those Saints. Interesting to hear the results especially in the name of science.

Only went for it because much cheapness and i like the idea of cartridge bearing'ing everything possible. The brakes they are destined for have very little use so i wont have much feedback on if they help reduce the slop/play caused by wear. Will report back after the usual lengthy delivery time.

Noticed a new bearing kit for Shimano servo wave pop up on Aliexpress yesterday. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009361896665.html In the interest of science i ordered a set to try on some Saints. Using some in app coins the price came down to £5.80 Has anyone else tried this mod?

Freecaster days. I probably have this on DVD. Remember that race, I think it was in France, Steve Peat "cut the course" at the top? The grassy bit. He was DQ'd. Wasn't he? I'm not sure. Will have to dig out DVD. Or can check out RootsNRain. I don't remember it being such a ruckus about it as this. Steve didn't complain. Well he probably did, but still. I like Lachie. I want him to have his 2nd place result. Part of racing is being in control enough to stay inside the course. Lachie's left knee barely grazes the pole as he goes around it on the right side. The left side is "in" and the right side is "out." We're not talking a couple inches. We're talking a foot outside the course.

I believe if you mix up the crush washers on the damper side it screws with your rebound range - I think an old fork with a flanged crush washer will space the adjuster out far enough that the allen disengages from the internal rod when you close the dial and you will need to stick an allen key up there to wind it back out. A flangeless crush washer in a new fork might reduce the total number of clicks you have. Honestly there isn't much need to replace them most of the time unless there is visible damage...

The older sets of brakes i own with clear braid always discolors and stains eventually. On a few sets (Mono4 & Mono6 ) i have peeled it off and run raw stainless like the original Shimano XT 4 piston. Gawd help you if your routing isn't perfect and you saw through your fork stanchion or HT though. Running it internally...
