Got a new one for you folks, I really love this one. Fox have developed a variable friction shock, where the sidewalls OR the piston shaft have various levels of friction coefficients, based on where the piston is in the travel. So the shock has different features at different locations in the travel. More importantly, there is a Live Valve variant where the piston seal has a polyelectrolyte coating and when a voltage is applied (from a controller and sensors) the friction can be changed inside the shock. while i can't speak for the mtb industry, but i work in med device manufacturing, and a common approach is called bookending where the worst case(s) - ie the upper and/or lower limits of a design or process - are validated and cover the intermediary configurations/parameters that fall between these limits.

FWIW, imperial standard shocks do come in the size that's written with that frame. Maybe they just didn't use metric shocks? 
Suspension system is close to a VPP, as for the geometry, is that good? My 150 mm trailbike has the same wheelbase as this one in XL... Same chainstay too. As for catalogue DH frames, Astro has always had some, I remember even Barel riding them in the Mondraker days pre-Zero suspension.

The Whitehorse area is where I had the most fun riding ever. Great trails, awesome people and riding community, and incredible scenery! I spent 6 summers there and miss this place every day.

1/11/2021 2:37pm It's not that bad. I ride a Forbidden Druid, and any drag/noise from the idler pulley is minimal as long as the chain is lubed. When the chain is dry, I can hear it. What is noticeable is the drag from the chainguide on that particular bike. It's there for enhanced wrap around the chainring, and most of the time...
