ebikeluver Liked a forum topic Specialized prototype- Why are they allowed?
7/28/2025 3:16pm I was just wondering why specialized can continue to run a prototype for so long, the rules are pretty clear that equipment must be able to be sold to consumers and while there’s an application process to run prototypes it seems like they are abusing this. What happens if the uci denies them using a prototype, do they go back to the 5 year old bike? Doesn’t seem like any other teams run a development cycle nearly this long during actual races.

7/28/2025 9:47am Intense needs some AF models IMO. Do they offer the Carbine, 279, and Tracer in aluminum? If they do, I've never seen any in person. And just like YT, Intense was another company that was all-in on the Shimano powered eebs. They had some crazy fire sales on their e bike line the last few years, and that couldn't have been good for their bottom line.

7/28/2025 9:46am Can people redo that drop out test by tightening the pinch bolts incrementally instead of torquing one down completely before doing the other? I know the manual doesn't say that but its the proper way to tighten any pinch bolt system

7/28/2025 9:44am Hey @TEAMROBOT do you still have your podium? How annoying would it be for you to try to replicate this? Schroeder and I were talking about this and he mentioned that the fork is probably constantly going in and out of alignment on the trail and questioned how much it even matters that the fork is starting in perfect alignment when there's no load. My thinking is that if your fork does bind like this but still feels as good as you say, then he's probably right.

7/28/2025 9:42am Brook since his horrible crash and a decline in his results has always come across in interviews and what not a little salty about his sponsor situations and all the bouncing around he's had to do but doesn't want to pop off about it... I think when your job is no longer guaranteed and you are essentially just risking your life for not much gain they start to get a bit bitter with the sport and culture of it all.

7/25/2025 5:14pm just read through most of this thread and it really tugged at the ol' heart strings and had me sad that I didn't switch to MTB sooner haha! for a long time i thought I liked PB better than vital but over the years I realized that the content and the vibe was so much better here. more intelligent posting, better race coverage, etc. My name is Sean and I live and ride in Santa Cruz where i work at a grocery store in the produce department. I have been a bike lover forever but there was a time when...

7/25/2025 5:11pm The part about fox wanting to see forks themselves in the early stages of a product launch is actually legitimate - it can be a real issue when people try to sort problems themselves since they are often misdiagnosed or not even reported back to the manufacturer at all. For example, when a shop opens up a fork that's only a few rides old and finds no oil , they probably think it just wasn't filled at the factory when it was actually sucked in to the damper. If they just add more oil, it just increases the problem and...

7/25/2025 3:10pm It's simple - if you're not at least trying to explore how to incorporate AI into your day to day work responsibilities, you're behind and your job will be in danger sooner than later. Shit's advancing more quickly than anyone knows how to control. There's not a day where I don't wish that AI would disappear but I truly don't think there's a single industry in the world that won't experience some level of change because of it. If there's an industry that doesn't leverage computers, someone (or something) will notice that and figure out how to do it cheaper...

7/25/2025 3:09pm i want to more seriously attempt to explain my lifelong struggle with dirt jumping so that my original post might take on new light for yall: I started riding bmx young and got my first real bmx bike when I was 11. I saved up birthday and christmas money and bought a mongoose (pre-walmart days...) I grew up hitting wood ramps and looking in awe at the dirt jumps built along the creek in Gilroy. I would later come to find out they were jumps that guys would come to ride from all over the bay area. these were steep...

7/25/2025 3:07pm you are 100% correct, it defaults to affirming and validating everything the user says, to the point where it will just flat out give you false information. but again, reducing chat-gpt to a chatbot only hides its true power, it doesn't erase it. it isn't a friend, it is a completely different way to analyze data and to surface connections in data that we have never and will never be able to connect. the printing press enabled distributed knowledge on a scale never before seen. Chat-GPT recentralizes that knowledge in a framework that allows cross-referencing and synthesis across domains that...

7/25/2025 3:05pm I only worked there for about a year and a half, but I’ve known the brand and the people for a long time. And yeah, I tend to agree—it might’ve been exaggerated. Kinda like that rumor about Lopes always parking crooked in his van because someone snapped a pic a couple times... and now it’s gospel lol. Point is, I knew how many frames were made and sold during my time there. I wasn’t in warranty or CS, but I was close enough to the crew to see what was going on. It wasn’t like frames were flying out the...

7/25/2025 3:04pm Brines – thanks for those finance blogs, some solid reads in there. I’m subscribing. On Rapha (and bike apparel in general), saw someone in the thread say, “Walmart bought it, I’m out.” Bit unfair, no? It wasn’t Walmart—it’s the Walton grandsons. Say what you want, but they’re bike fans. And if we’re being honest, if any of us were billionaires, we’d probably scoop up some cool bike brands too. I think they’ve also got their hands in Allied and Wahoo? Honestly, not the worst portfolio if you’re trying to uplift cycling. Rapha’s got a new CEO too, and from what...

7/25/2025 12:49pm i stumbled across some photos from 1999. man, i loved that "beer can" super 8. manitou expert carbon fork, deemax wheels, hayes discs. all gleaned from MTBR classifieds or Supergo mail order for the most part. suburban freeride at flatirons crossing mall before it was built and before i morphed into gordo. pretty sure i had a 42t chainring on there. maybe 40t. XTR w/ MRP.
this gary fisher (my good friend is riding, i took the photo) was my first "real" MTB. bought in 1996 or 1997 for $450 with STX-RC, it started out rigid. i got...

7/25/2025 9:59am Hi yall. I don't know if any of you have the same flavor of autism as I do but I love overthinking bikes and damn, has chatgpt opened up a whole new realm of overthinking bikes. I have been doing a ton of "research" into the types of insights that chatgpt can provide and I have found some really fun/really insane stuff. I have a few different bike-related chats I can share, but today's was really interesting and ended with this really crazy perspective on dirt jumps. I have always been curious about what is happening inside the minds/bodies of...

7/25/2025 9:17am I think Intense is mostly a victim of their own hubris. There is no doubt they've been a huge influence in the market, especially in decades past, but that has waned considerably. I think they began losing luster once Sapa/Anodizing Inc shuttered frame building ops in OR, as then they went Asian carbon manufacturing. That didn't jibe well with many of the fans of the brand. Then you have them pulling out of the LBS's, and I remember being in SoCal and amazed at the number of shops that carried them prior to that. Talk about a kick to the...
