i asked neko this morning and he said that asa's priority for the season is world cup results. asa is free to race whatever he wants, but asa chose to sit this one out (can't blame him, consequences are pretty heavy going down here). he'll race rock creek next week.

Anyone know if everything is good with Asa? I’m hoping he was just playing it smart and saving it for the world cups, I have become a pretty big fan.

Every loss should be tragic to anyody but it feels harder when that's someone I've been shuttling and practicing with for the last few days. Just doing our things together brings a sense of brotherhood, Unlike some other sports, I really feel a strong bond and sense of community in DH racing, especially in this field of the cat1 19 to 70+. All these guys are true heroes, dedicated racers only doing it for true passion. Years ago, when BMW came out with telelever suspension, I drew up a full suspension bike frame design with it front and rear. I figured it would be the hot new thing. That same week there it was with Whyte on the down tube on the cover of MBA. Damn. At least I didn't miss out on the riches as I don't think they sold many.

Yeah, I'm slightly prejudiced against specialized mostly because of what they used to be. But when my sister asked for a bike recommendation I steered her towards the status. It's got a lot going for it.

I am a longtime Kona fan, but there is not enough difference nor benefit b/t this and the Status that I would recommend someone buying this over the Specialized. Especially not for having to deal with a press fit BB, weaker brakes and $1400 more.

Y'all had fun, and that's what really matters. It was fun to watch.
