[spomer edit - i put top 20 screencap for pros below...thanks for throwing up the link, red!]
aletha won by 4 seconds IIRC, too. it was a great race. it rained last night making the rocks and roots slick, but the dirt was still super grippy. by the time practice ended, it was drying out, then as the early ams went up, it rained for a bit, making it pretty sloppy (they had the worst of it). by the end of pro men, it was drying out nicely until about the last 12 or so riders, then it rained again. tricky conditions for everyone but definitely the last 3-5 men. there was a lot of post-race talk from heavies not really wanting to take huge risks or push too hard this early. great stuff all around!
Anyone know if everything is good with Asa? I’m hoping he was just playing it smart and saving it for the world cups, I have become a pretty big fan.
i asked neko this morning and he said that asa's priority for the season is world cup results. asa is free to race whatever he wants, but asa chose to sit this one out (can't blame him, consequences are pretty heavy going down here). he'll race rock creek next week.
Looking at the results, Cameron Bragg (Cat 1 - 18U) was the fastest female of the day, beating Aletha by three seconds. Based on your description of the day's conditions, it appears she faced slightly tougher conditions than Aletha. Wow!
here's how nasty it was for the ams! BRUTAL
i'm not positive, but IIRC they ran right before pro women, so yeah that's a gnarly-fast time to drop!! start lists (which i don't have) would confirm start times/order. regardless, some pinners in that class!
Pretty sure cat 1 18 and under women went before the rain
Just looking at the results it seems like there's a pretty significant time gap between some top racers and others in sector 1 and after that they dont lose any further time - Lachy is a perfect example. Was there a specific line up top that was a massive benefit??
here's troy's 3rd place run
It cant be understated how slippery conditions like that can be. Would rather it be a complete washout with a downpour then a little rain over dry and dusty.
She can only race junior in world cup. There's no allowance for exceptions in ze rulebook, which suits me. The Asa - Max head to head wouldn't have the same level of gravitas if Elite cat included the U19's.
Cameron did run before the rain. If you look at the seeding times you’ll see an equally track comparison. Aletha had her by I believe 15-17 seconds. Not taking anything away from Cameron at all with that being said she is an amazing rider as well.
The old trailbuilding staff used to go through and chop the ground up in key sections to make it looser before the event- the new management seems to have run a plate compactor down some of those same sections. Titus’s crash reel from yesterday kinda highlights that, eh?
Makes it look so so easy. Wow.
Doesn't matter who does what at WIndRock. Demons come out in places you wouldn't expect & in others, you have stupid grip you didn't expect.

My last race there, I missed seeding & was placed last in class, first to start. Sky opened (bone dry) in the gate & I made it maybe 3 turns of heavenly bliss, then the entire mountain was ice from there down. Zero grip. Glazed Kickboxer the movie level grease.
30 minutes later, it was perfect for other classes. Guys in mine almost died. 😁
Off & on rain at the Rock is the ultimate pot luck.,

Do the blue lights on the fork mean beast mode has been engaged?
Tuned in to try to find the race replay, and instead got spoiled with the result in the headline. Nice!
Gwin's POV from Tennessee National:

I tried to post the race replay video but it's not showing up?
Trying again:
Strong results from the Sea to Sky juniors. Podiums for Mack, Cami and the Harrison brothers. Mack battling through some food poisoning as well in seeding.
I got to speak with Neko and his dad in the pits and they said Asa didn't want to run the track because he broke his pelvis there last year. Its sad because he always said it was one of his favorite tracks.
just fyi, i started a pro downhill series rock creek thread here - asa's registered

Party Foul. Some will blame the taping crew for not blocking off spectators. I blame everyone standing here.

STAY OUT OF THE APEX of turns. You block sight lines & in this case, you literally block the line & put racers in danger.
And no, it's not an oopsie. I've had my bar ripped out my hand by dip wads leaning into the track. Can you imagine Gwin's season or career ending in this turn?
One thing about windrock is the track was amazing but there was NO spectator path whatsoever. It was terrible and down right dangerous to walk beside the track.
Walked, rode, leaf blown, slammed, tumbled & cartwheeled down WR since 2001. Is easier to roll than stroll. 😆
