2/22/2025 10:12am The used market is really painful for selling, but great for buying right now. Back in 2014, I had a 2009 Commencal Furious VIP frame for sell. It had scratches and dings, but nothing that would hurt its performance. I sold it pretty quickly for $1,000. In 2023, I had a 2021 Commencal Meta AM 29 frame for sale. It was in really good shape, I can't think of even a scratch, let alone any dents. I had put together a list of all the similar age and condition frames that were for sale at the time, and priced the...

2/22/2025 10:10am My opinion... Used ebikes have the re-sale value of a pringles can left out in the rain for 4 weeks and full of water. Any real mileage on them (over 300-500) and there will be practically no interest, even at 50% under msrp. Not a shocker, but it's a turn in the market where your ownership decisions are now impacted by that. Previously, the move was either get a new ebike every year before the depreciation got gnarly, or just hold onto it and run it into the ground. Now the answer is clear, run it into the ground and...

2/22/2025 10:10am great time to buy new bikes at a good deal or used bikes for almost nothing. I've been lucky to sell some stuff, but I have been taking a hit for sure.

2/6/2025 9:18am I think that's fair. After doing this test, I'm going to keep thrashing my 2018 Commencal Absolut. I will say that the best part about these bikes is you can go in on a DJ, and 5 years later it'll be just as fun and will have required minimal maintenance. I can't say the same about any mountain bike I've ever owned.

2/5/2025 2:41pm Funny you posted this today. I've had a Suntour TriAir 2 shock in a drawer from a previous bike. I put it on today to see how it was. Not a real test but riding down stairs and jumping curbs plus riding down a steep rough 100 foot long dirt hill in a park on frozen ground. Both shocks set...

2/5/2025 10:58am That's often a sign the nitrogen pressure is a little bit low, which is usually the only thing pushing both the rebound needle and lockout into the grooves on the adjuster cam. Probably best to have Fox look at it but if thats the case its a simple fix, if you leave stuff like that it can turn in to a much bigger problem later on

2/5/2025 10:22am I had issues with my climb switch wanting to migrate towards closed all by itself, even on bike paths. Your issue could be related? FOX had me send it in and it seems all good now. I'd contact them and ask about it.

1/27/2025 12:26pm Check that the chain isn't contacting the derailleur when it's in the 10t cog. I've noticed on some frames (including a new SJ15) that SRAM's recommended chain length in 2 links too long, and causes contact. Remove a link and check this over, maybe best to try this with a old transmission chain if you have one laying around just incase this isn't the solution for your case

1/27/2025 12:26pm I've wondered about the chain length. I'll check that out although the clunking is in all gears and I did try putting padding on a few spots of the derailleur with no luck.

1/23/2025 12:38pm I have the new S Works frame (S5 size) and built it up with a mix of new parts including XO transmission, except cranks, and what I brought over from my previous bike. Anyways there's a nasty annoying clunking sound whenever I go down rough terrain. Really miserable at times. And yes, the drivetrain is set up correctly. 2 guys...

12/3/2024 6:01am Almost seems like there are two or three tiers of tires. Thanks for doing this interesting test! I'd love to see something similar for trail or 'downcountry' tires too

11/27/2024 5:22pm It works flawlessly. I just did a big ride on it and had no issues with noise or chain retention. In fact I never had issues running "non-t-type" chainrings with transmission. Back when transmission came out, the selection of certified chain rings was non-existent so I used a normal 3 bolt eagle crankset and Garbaruk chainrings without issues. It is funny how much SRAM emphasized on every component in the drivetrain needed to be compliant.

11/5/2024 9:57am Why am I sharing this, and why might another rider want to read this? I'm a (modestly) credentialed, (modestly) working scientist with no present affiliation to the any part of the bike industry. Teaching quantitative reasoning and technical communication skills is the lion's share of what I do for work. I'm not a 'sci-comm' professional trying to drive attention toward a podcast about bikes or a bike youtuber trying to grab attention by deploying keywords like data or science. I don't have a vested interest in either bike setup being faster than the other. So let this be my attempt...
