Been splitting my time between my Commencal E bike and my Pivot firebird 29 for the past 2 years and really with an open mind see no downside. The fitness level for both is the same I feel as you push hard on the E bike( yes you can moto uphill,) more effort the faster you go.. on our Thursday night rides will average 8 more miles per ride ( more fitness) than on my pedal bike.. I enjoy them both, and as a trail builder see no more wear and tear than a pedal bike inflicts. The mentality about...

Some interesting discussion.. I don't necessarily think that they are 2 different sports, but they do appeal to different groups. The traditional bike riders tend to enjoy the suffering a bit. The ebike takes away that suffering. It makes things more accessible to more people.. But, there is a downside to that... Your Moab story is a good example... Some of these people don't have any respect for the outdoors. Will the ebike kill the mountain bike? Probably not. If they could hit $2500, it would see sales jump... But, what would they have to sacrifice to get there? If...

Its funny that the most comments i get at the bike park are from kids. Usually its "hey, nice bike!!". Like the computer age, kids were on board enthusiastically from the start. G ma and g pa still working on getting the vhs on the go. Next gen will be after eebs

Spot in Salespunk. Your experience mirrors mine exactly. And most of the riders I’m riding with have pretty much made the switch after years regular rides. It’s just makes everything more fun. Even the boring trails. No longer are you avoiding trails that don’t have quite the downhill as a reward. It’s really just the regular bike experience but more fun. All the infighting seems to come from within our own community.

This is going to be fun. A bunch of riders who have never tried one complaining that it is a different sport, they don't belong on trails, they are motorcycles, they cause more trail erosion etc, etc, etc. Pretty much the exact same argument that the Sierra Club used against mountain bikes. As the owner of both I can say it is all a bunch of hyperbole. If you haven't ridden one on trails for a day or two you won't get it. eBikes make climbing fun (yes I am fit and can climb just fine on my standard bike)...

absolutely, little birdy told me E8000 motors will be interchangeable too. I'll believe that when I see it, but the source I got this from is a good one. I'm excited. The new steps firmware is excellent and it's hard to think how they can improve that. I'm thinking another 10-20nm of torque and most importantly HEAPS FUCKIN QUIETER! People can hear me from 200 yards away lol.

Totally. Rode a 29 Demo last season in Whistler and was getting my ass buzzed like crazy. Had to change my riding technique. Would love to run mullet but Specialized wont make the linkage available to run it proper.

To clarify, this is for our local DH trails near Calgary. It's a valley setting in the Alberta foothills (Moose Mountain) with two gravel fireroads with trails built off both sides and a low lying parking lot in the middle. 9-11km per lap up the first side from main parking with 500m up to the two top trails and 3-8km back on various terrain back to start from two sides of that hill and 3km/350m up the other side with 1-4km back to start on the other. For two popular trails involving the first climb it's 23km with 950m to...

Ridden quite a few places. Like the common epic ones. Alps etc. honestly, if it’s about pure riding nothing beats BC imho. Now if you want to factor in things like Euro travel and touristy thing. etc, that’s different. But for pure riding Whistler / Squamish / BC is just unreal.

This fork could be rad on an Evil Wreckoning or something similar. Right before things got really slack. Something in the 66 HA range

The way i see it steeper seat tube angles bring your CoG forwards and help the pedalling that way. But the intention is also not to rotate the rider around the BB, but to open up te hip joint a bit and keep the rider at least as upright if not even more upright (since you can be relaxed while slogging up a hill and don't need to pull yourself over the bar to transfer the weight). With a steeper seat tube, you still need the same seat to BB length as before which then means you sit higher up...

Many riders tend to still keep the same rise handlebars and same spacers under their stems when they get a new bike in the long, low, and slack era. You actually need to get your bar height higher, particularly if you've chosen to upsize. Note that this may not be possible with some manufacturers who choose to cut steerer tubes really short, like YT.

Reach is a stupid number that doesn't properly represent the actual length of a cockpit. I think Chris Porter said it best, "It'd be helpful if people were shaped like a set-square". My old SB-66c in XL had a 455mm reach on it. My current bike, a Large Nicolai Ion G15 GPI, is sitting at 515mm. However I had to switch the Nicolai from a 35mm to a 50mm stem to make my cockpit feel comfortable and "uncramped" again whereas the SB66c I was on the limits of fitting the XL with the stumpy little 35mm (I stand at 187cm...
