I did a bunch of anit-funk research and testing when selecting fabrics for my Abit Gear shorts/pants. I ended out using Nylon for reasons, including it being inherently low-funk. Most helmet pads are polyester. The challenge is that polyester has near-zero moisture regain. Almost no moisture is absorbed into the fibers themselves and once bacteria take up it's hard AF to get it out. To de-stank polyester gear: Soak for 24 hours in unscented powder detergent, mixed with oxyclean or borax per the containers instructions. The 24 hour part is key here as it takes that long for the solution...

I think Fillmore and Click are trying to solve two different problems. If someone could figure out how to combine the two, that would be pretty sweet. Click is primarily about the ease of getting the pump head on and off. It's better than screwing on one or flipping up a lever, it just is. I asked the inventor at sea otter how the flow compared to Fillmore and he basically said, it's better than presta but you can't compare either to Fillmore... Fillmore is trying to solve the shitty flow of presta, and its propensity to clog. It does...

I don't know for sure, but someone on MTBR posted that size large would have 66 HTA, 75 STA, and adjusted stack and reach. If the HTA number is accurate, that's a pretty massive change - from 68.3. That's close to the Tallboy.

I don't recall seeing info on the Blur 5 here yet, but I think both Tobin Ortenblad and Ruth Holcomb were on it at the BCBR.

Assegai is just kind of numb, works at all angles, but isn't the best at any of them. Not sure if it's the casing (feels different than previous maxxis dh casings), but I'm really liking the dh highroller 3 right now. Bites like a dhf in corners, but still conforms to off camber roots and such nicely.

I've been riding XT Di2 for the past 5 months and that hasn't been my experience. Zero dropped chains and I just run an upper guide (always have). Shifts flawlessly. As far as chain slap noise it seems to be heavily dependent on the bike and what kind of chainstay protection it has, my HD6 is fine. Even the most vocal critics (Pinkbike tech editors) have noted that it varies from bike to bike. Not trying to convince anyone that they need to buy it, just relating my personal experience.

This whole power war situation sucks. I spent years fighting for MTB trail access and I'm quite worried with the Class 1 eMTB players blatantly flaunting the spirit of the rules. For the first time, the anti-MTB crowd actually have a valid point. DJI and Specialized DGAF. None. Burn it all down.

Well, I guess I’d love to ride the new Tallboy and then decide, how the move to a new system tastes. The best feature imho of the VPP with a solid rear triangle was that all bearings were located in the rocker. Changing them was a breeze and there was no risk of damaging the carbon frame in the process. I tend to ride my bikes as long as possible, since they became so great. (swapped annually when I used to work in a bike shop, industry deals etc, and geometry was still shitty and new bikes sometimes brought revelatory...

Big Bird Liked a reply to forum topic Tire inserts - do you run them?

4/6/2026 3:53pm
After my MS diagnosis and symptoms caused me to stop riding, I got a job at Art's cycles doing bike building/packing and I started a list of new bike tech that would come up that I've never gotten to use. Some of it was from before but I hadn't been able to afford. Inserts are on that list. Along with 27.5 and 29 inch wheels and many more. But I got So good at installing them. Experience installing motorcycle tires helped immensely. But most installs at the shop usually came back to me. Rims have that deeper section for a...

Tire tech and rim flange designs have improved enough that I don't think there is a need for inserts anymore. In fact, inserts can cause more headache than benefit. They can act as a lever and promote blow offs. First hand account from one of our Enduro racers a couple of seasons back: So, turns out it was my insert that was causing the tires to fail and blow off. I put a new tire on, did some rides, was practicing for the race this past weekend and the exact same thing happened. Luckily just in practice this time. Something...

One challenge with low volume apparel is amortizing the development cost. Soft goods sometimes cost more to develop than hard goods as it's a ton of labor making patterns, sewing up samples, testing, reworking the protos, repeat this several times, then have the factory make a few pre-production samples to make sure they interpreted your tech pack correctly. You also need to validate for durability (all brands do this, right? RIGHT?). It's as much voodoo as it is hard science, which means lots of back and forth. Yes, we give them CAD files for patterns, but it's still all hand...

Quite intrigued by this new peak design from POC. Reading between the lines I’d guess they’re going to offer options for different weather conditions and possibly aero? Also interested to know what kind of breakaway force is required.

6-4 here plus3 ape, and while I was gona mention that this is the wrong thread, I’d also like to mention that the geometry outliers are also hunting new bike geo to constantly find “that thing” that they’ve been missing for a while, mostly for me and I think S666 it’s a cockpit we can move around in and still control the bike. Outliers? Yes. Buyers? Also yes. FWIW: the answer is currently , NORCO.
