kperras Added a reply to Sunny winter riding in the USA

As a fellow Canadian who's gone down to the Southwest during the winter, I can recommend Phoenix and adjacent area for good, but more importantly, easily found and accessible riding. LA would be my other vote, but the riding is more spread out and harder to find and access. High-elevation desert places like Moab or Sedona are a no-go in...

I don't get the downvotes for this, its team rumors, not team news, that's for Jan 1 and One Ghost is teasing some stuff until then to make people question stuff. If he just said everything, he'd stop getting the info to do so. These threads have been, in the past, for cliffhangers, jokes, puzzles and falsehoods. Have fun with it and don't be so frickin serious, silly season on here used to actually be silly and everyone's making it out to be such a grind the last 2-3 seasons. Make some shit up and enjoy it. Give people some...

A sneak peak is when you think you're at the top, but then turn a corner and see that you're still a whole 'nother peak away.

I think what bothers me about all of this 4-bar/6-bar conversation is that it feels like mountain bikers have decided on a series of terminology, ignoring the fact that there's ~100 years of precedence in linkage design. People use linkages to do all sorts of things. There's very specific terminology around them. For the most part, that terminology (as far as I can tell) doesn't really change because of what you use as your output link. A horst link bike is a form of double rocker 4-bar link. It doesn't really cease to be a double rocker 4-bar link if...

kperras Added a reply to Tire weight deviation

11/10/2023 11:01am
If you've spent a few hours researching light weight parts and then dropped significant coin on said parts it's not completely out of line to be picky about tire weight deviation. I wouldn't notice 50-100g of extra tire weight while riding but it does show up on the scale and small gains throughout the bike add up.

There was an interesting podcast with Nino Schurter's mechanic on pinkbike (yes, you can actually write that name and say you visit the site on this forum...). He claims that he gets batches of tyres at the start of the season, weighs them all and separates them into light/normal/heavy, they mostly use the normal ones, heavy ones come out for rocky courses. They don't use the light ones because the weight suggests there might be a flaw or imbalance in them, that was the most surprising revelation!

i'm pretty blown away to have to say this to grown adults (i assume) in our forum, but every time someone trolls or says something you don't like, quoting it and explaining why it's lame/unsavory/kooky/political only makes the thing you dislike live on for days. in the history of the internet, has anyone ever changed their mind and said "you're right," after being challenged/critiqued/criticized/called out in a forum? not that i'm aware of. the garbage has been moderated for now. if you don't like something said here, use the thumbs down, move on, watch it die and it'll be forgotten...

As a CFO (outside of the bike industry), and a lifelong mountain biker, I've been following the current boom/bust cycle in the bike industry. I have very reliable sources at GG and banker friends who lend to multiple bike companies or their parent companies. @whitesq comments on GG are basically correct, they sold a majority equity position to a private individual investor. Initially they believed that investor had a shared vision for the company which included developing high end bikes and ebikes, in addition to growing their in house domestic revved carbon manufacturing as a contract manufacturer to other bike...

It's based on budgets. Those budgets are a financial blueprint for company activities and, due to a slow down in sales right now, the budgets are not adding up. This means they are getting re-balanced, and companies are looking for ways to cut expenditures to make the math add up. Budgets set during the covid boom may not have reflected...
once again, look at all the high-number plates with a good quali today. 6th place has a 43 plate 9th has a 62 plate. 17th has 67 plate 19th has 72 plate 23rd has 84 plate and so-on if bulk of those riders aren't on the circuit b/c of a tighter format...#snooze

DubC Liked a comment about Feature TESTED - 2023 Orbea Rise Long Term Review

Myself and 4 friends bought either the carbon or the alloy version of the Rise within the past 1.5-2 years. Not one person is still riding them. All of us are 40-something, good riders, technically capable with full home workshops and some with past bike industry experience. -Woefully inadequate spec for an ebike - fox 34, 2 piston brakes w/180mm rotors, light weight trail bike tires. All need to get replaced immediately with parts appropriate for an ebike - keep this in mind when you consider what the actual weight of the bike will end up being, because there goes...
