In the meantime, I have an incoming factory order of a couple thousand mtb pants that are going to be hit with an additional 26% tariff, for 53.9% total import tax. India. That would be all fine and good, if: 1: I thought consumers would be wiling to pay 26% more. LOL. 2: Tariffs would hold at 53.9%. They won't, so I'll be in a permanent hole on this year's inventory. These import taxes will roll away within a few months. Businesses need a predictable environment in which to operate. If I knew the tariffs would actually be permanent and...

Considering the market opened down 6% I feel its probably a good idea for me to release this little app. Its a good place to watch how the publicly traded companies in the bike, outdoor, powersports or "outdoor adjacent" space are performing through this shit show. Few thoughts... URL: www.otherhours.com -The name isn't great. I just had that domain so I used it. -All quotes are delayed; I am using the Yahoo Finance dataset which isn't great (but is free). I'm also using FRED for the CPI/yield stuff. I would not rely on this to trade or anything, but it...

Wow, a rare tariff supporter on the vital forums. I think it is actually an OK view to have, if you don't want global trade and the benefits that come with it, that's fine. Just be prepared to accept lower quality, more expensive goods, and worse work for the average person because now you need to man the manufacturing and textile plants yourselves.

Oh man the 3M scenario speaks to me...nothing compares to standing in Home Depot looking at the massive wall of adhesive tubes trying to figure out which one you need.

I agree on premise. The point I was trying to make in a previous post is that it’s not appropriate to compare the business models of Maxxis and Chipotle wrt SKU count. In manufacturing/factory business models there is cost associated with producing a good AND not producing a good – both from a financial metric and a game-theoretic perspective. This can lead to production recommendations that are not intuitive to those unfamiliar with manufacturing calculus, but still translate to higher profit. I.e. when waste cost is high or when competition for material (pricing) is high. This sort of data science...

I agree. To add color to the comparison of Cheesecake, Chipotle, and Maxxis – the latter is a manufacturer that takes raw material and run production processes to produces tires. Unit economics for a production factory is not governed by traditional wisdom and using Maxxis as a counterpoint for reducing the number of choices offered to the customer by a small business is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. Factories, amongst other things, seek to reduce waste in the production process. When manufacturing items like tires, there is raw resource that is transformed into a product thru some...

It's not about what you need, it's about what you might need. Just like driving a truck for getting groceries. The beauty (and frustrating) thing about cycling is there's so much variation in needs and expectations that there is no right or wrong, so it's best to cover all options and spec the most drop possible.

Crazy news from Portland, Oregon: longtime MTB anchor Fat Tire Farm is closing after 40 years in business. For me, this news felt like it came out of nowhere. Obviously the bike industry is hurting, but the Farm has weathered a lot of storms, and every time I go in they seemed to be going from strength to strength. They were probably the best, healthiest bike shop I've ever been to, and it's a huge loss to the Portland riding community. They supported local trail work, ran their own summer race series, had their own pro suspension service and tuning...

For anyone riding a 2024+ Rocky Mountain, there's a seat post fitment chart (sorry no app..I'm not good at computers) in the tech manuals that list all relevant information. It's based on the spec saddle height (45mm for a WTB Volt) and takes cranklenghts out of the equation since measurements start from center of BB. Pg.11 https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0449/1496/6691/files/MY24_altitude_v1… The lack of...

Missing minimum insertion depth as well. It's a minor one, but it can affect fitment if you have long legs and don't want/can't get long drop options. Sorry for spamming, I couldn't quote this into the Dropper Post thread.

I thought you were right so I built one! dropperchecker.com Doesn't solve the missing frame insertion info. But still makes it a bit easier to make a call.
