Define elite. If a privateer qualifies to race in the elite category doesn't that make them an elite rider? If they get down the track faster than someone with a factory ride haven't they earned the right to race? There are numerous team riders that rarely qualify for finals.

He lost view of what is good for the sport versus what is good for the WB stakeholders. I'm also always baffled when anybody claims DH is too long and complicated when few of the most popular sports are baseball and football, even the most popular cycling event is the fucking endless hours long Tour de France...It's also pretty insulting for the viewers who would be too dumb to understand an offroad time trial. Everybody wants to compare DH with Formula 1 but have you ever watched a Grand Prix without falling asleep on the couch? I see zero evidence...

Sounds increasingly like after 30 years, WC DH as we loved it will be over... I for one don't care to watch a curated liste of "elite" teams race each other and pretend their are the best in the world haha. I never pay for sports, but I surely won't even try to watch now.

Definitely disappointing to hear and seems very short sighted. I wish they would sell the gravity disciplines off as XC seems like the only format where they could accomplish those goals and not kill the sport. Maybe a new series separate from the UCI and Warner Bros could sprout from the ashes? It feels pointless to have the series governed by the UCI if it’s not an Olympic discipline.

The team thing is a bit concerning, wildcard entry wreaks of greasy politics over who gets in. I like the qualifying idea with no protected riders. You have to put down a run at some point to make it. Also like the kit thing, too many press releases and instagramming a new kit colourway every single weekend of racing. Pick a kit and stick with it. The Continental series is needed. Every successful sport has a feeder system. I am sure it won't be anywhere near perfect off the start, but it needs a formalized start. I wonder how that...

I'm not anti innovation, but I am pro choice. Having choices removed is a step backwards IMO.

I'd argue it's more human nature, people want 'new' and new is wireless. Give Santa Cruz a reason to save 55c per frame for not having internal guides and they'll take it. I think one of the biggest issues is that wireless only locks you into SRAM currently. It's crazy that they're releasing these before Shimano has a wireless drivetrain out. Lets say the next version of SRAM wireless has a recall issue, or a plant burns down, or literally anything to disrupt a single supply chain. Congrats, you now have 0 bikes to sell. I think wireless drivetrains are...

That's my point. There are already teams and potential funding in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and potentially South America. They are not going to develop if we wait for euro-centric mega team to be comfy. The goal is not to bring the euro show abroad but to give a chance to other entities. if some small euro teams disappear, maybe some others will appear. BTW most mega teams (Specialized, Trek, SRAM, Fox, etc) already have resources across the world. I don't buy the idea that Loic, Amaury, Vali won't show up out of the Europe, their team will find...

Screw Europe-based big teams, they need to adapt to a less European-centric racing not to get more funding. UCI didn't wait for Kiwis and American racers to get more funding to be able to travel across the word. The goal is not to allow Europeans to travel easily but to give a fair chance to all racers all across the globe..

Hey I actually had a very similar thing occur on my Zeb during its first full rebuild. Mine was a MY22 Zeb Ultimate at 170mm. I always struggled to get full travel on the fork, which I had attributed to the ramp up in the air chamber. I got a full service from a very good local suspension shop and...

For the sake of not derailling the thread any more I am not gonna continue to argue about this. It's a good bike with oddball design choices on release. Let's leave it at that.

Side note - Canecreek made a coil with a pneumatic ramp up earlier this year - the Tioga, debatably that could be the perfect shock for this bike

I dont think the course was too technical, i just dont think they should line those sections with rock walls. Theyd have more line options if they left that boulder field open without the rock barriers. The technicality would still be there, which is great in mtb, but those inbedded rock walls are unnecessary hazards, excessive consequences

I’m loving the increased difficulty in XCO. If you can’t handle it as top-level racer; swap the xc bike for a trail bike, wear an actual MTB helmet and back protection, or go race gravel or XC marathon instead.

Personally i see the point of man made features on an xc course. Looks good on tv. Separates the riders. It was interesting watching the dh guys at the latest dhse send the man made rock garden that was on the xc World Cup course. at the end of the day World Cup xc racing is exactly what happens when you need to film the event. The courses are designed to imitate xc riding in a race able format. And often the venues have to make do with what they got. Looks like the organizers squeezed every bit of elevation...

The problem with these XC courses at the world cups is they give the elite riders way too much time to practice. Days of ripping laps and hours with line/technique coaches and such practicing the 4 hard sections. Really levels the playing field as riders with lower technical skill can be coached up over 2-3 days to ride the hard lines, etc. What would be great is if they got a course walk, then minimum on course practice and then race day. Giving the riders who have higher level of technical skill something to separate themselves on. You'd actually see...
