Everyone keeps talking about how long travel non-assisted bikes just aren’t selling. People are buying e-bikes in that category. I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t in a rush to fill that enduro spot. I saw something the other day, that said last year the blur and v10 were Santa Cruz’s best selling bikes without motors. The mid to long travel segments are really going to e-bikes these days. Wouldn’t be surprised if specialized isn’t the only one going oops we forgot about our enduro bike for a few years.

And Spec isn't alone, feels a lot like the Japanese car industry dropping most of its low volume sports car models in the mid-2000s.

Feels like a "dump the whole line" mood from the big S on this one. Which would leave a shockingly thin lineup of full suspension pedal bikes- Epic, Chisel, Stumpy, Status... that's it.

I can speak to clothing as I run a tiny MTB apparel brand, Abit Gear. The short story is that for USA brands, tariffs are making it a royal PITA and covid saw a glut of inventory that isn't yet cleared. Sure, margins are good on paper, but you have a SKU problem with apparel do to size and color variants, you have to carry a lot of aged inventory, and fight discounting from competitors more than with hard goods. For technical apparel, China is, by far, the best quality. Most of the technical apparel factories are in China. They...

Deviate says they're coming back the 13th or something. Apparel can generally be really tough in bike stores. There's a lot of bike stores that do it really bad. I'd put most bike shops into this category. However, to do it right, there's a big capital, time, and space commitment that most aren't prepared or equipped to deal with. Doing...

The analogy of bike shops to restaurants is a pretty good one I think. I think the shops that will survive are the ones that offer compelling reasons for repeat customers to go back, in spite of alternative options of ordering parts online or doing your own service. Just like local small restaurants or coffee shops appeal to people (atmosphere, quality, social connections) to keep going back vs. brewing coffee/cooking at home or getting something cheaper from Starbucks or Taco Bell.

I think it makes a lot of sense to consider front wheel size and rear wheel size independently. There's no relationship between them as far as I'm concerned. Choose rear wheel size based on how you want your rear wheel to affect your handling and clearances, and then do the same with the front. If they don't like a 29" rear wheel now, then they're not going to like one just because the front wheel is even bigger. Rear wheel size has a big effect on wheel path, and Frameworks really worked towards maximising the rearward path of the axle...

As a mechanic, I often wonder about our survivorship bias in the store. We obviously meet customers who turn away when we quote how much is going to be involved with repairing their bike, but there's a whole fleet of people who never step foot in our door, either deciding based upon online quotes on labour and parts, or trying their hand at it themselves and not knowing what parts need to be replaced, and more or less giving up prior to actually knowing what's going on. Around here bikes have more than a bit of a reputation for being...

We can continue to talk about this over here to not derail this forum https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/frame-design But in my opinion there are benefits to a linkage driven single pivot design over a Horst link, depending on what you are looking for. The biggest consistent difference between Horst designs and ldsp is the anti-rise, where Horst link bikes are generally low (80% and below) and ldsp bikes are high ( above 100%) and each of those have their own merits. I love ldsp bikes, they tend to be playful, predictable, and consistent in feel and geometry, I'm designing a high ldsp DH...
