5/16/2022 9:53am I'm guessing he means concentric around the axle, like trek and some others do. And yes mandingo, alloy bikes can have flex stays. Many bikes have had in the past, but a lot of them were not implemented very well, lots of complaints about being too flexy side to side and high breakage rates. Is it's possible to implement al flex stays well? idk. It's telling that Specialized stumpy al version uses horst and carbon version uses flex.

4/28/2022 8:51am Personally I do not jive with very long reach. However I am a big fan of lengthening the wheelbase with long chainstays and a 62.5 degree head tube angle. I can comfortably run a much higher stack height and a shorter stem and still have plenty of front wheel grip. This has led to a massive improvement in handling at high speeds, my legs a stronger position to absorb hits, and a far more neutral riding position where I do not need to adjust my riding position nearly as much for different gradients. The reasonable reach and high stack height...

4/20/2022 3:40pm The counter point to that would be that the longer reach paired with the short rear end would mean the rider has to more aggressively weight the front. Which would likely be very tiring at race pace over several EWS stages.

4/14/2022 8:40pm Different strokes for different folks. I won more than a few races on downhill tires at 28/29 psi. Like previously mentioned by others, there’s no universal tire pressure that works for everyone. For me, anything under 25 psi (maxxis, schwalbe, bontrager, specialized, or continental, those are the tires I’ve ran most) squirms around on me in corners and seems to not hold up to square edge hits as well for me. I also ride size medium bikes which is not on trend with todays “size up” mentality, and this allows me to really pin point where my weight is on...

4/14/2022 8:39pm I'd counter that 26/27 is within the range of average pressures. Pressure is pretty terrain-dependent, and while that might seem high for PNW conditions, 26/27 is pretty normal for many other areas.

4/14/2022 8:39pm Anything in the low to upper 20s is common. There is no single tire pressure that's going to work for everyone. Terrain, conditions, bike type, bike setup, rider weight, riding style, and tire size are some of the variables to consider. I raced a lot of XC back in the day so I always wanted to run as low a pressure as possible. Now that I only ride trail and big, pedally backcountry rides, I run higher pressures (24 f / 27 r) because I want support and feedback from my tires. In the wet season I run a bit...

4/14/2022 8:38pm I would say that 26/27PSI is likely a pretty good average for most people to make deductions from. I currently run heavier casings than these at higher pressures and you run lower pressures, so this should be a good middle point that we can both make deductions from.

4/7/2022 11:56am Dang looks really cool and hopefully addresses the lack of progression from a single pivot design. Too bad they shortened the chainstays compared to the switch 6 though.

4/7/2022 9:12am And the age old problem of "want a light casing? Hard rubber for you. Want it soft? Heavy casing only"... Doesn't anyone want a hard wearing heavy casing rear tyre or a light casing soft rubber front??

4/7/2022 9:07am REgular WE do not have grip on roots/stones (i had it in Magi-X compound). This tire need loose or soft ground to dig in. Then it shines. Racing line is probably better on roots/stones. But then go with DH22 (if you want your tire to weigh 1.5kg) because it has a better design of knobs which will harder bite on roots/stones than WE. Dh22 and Assegai with Maxxgrip compound (Chose casing which you whant EXO+, DD or DH) is the best tyres for roots/stones (wet or dry) (my conclusion from forums) (some ppls say that Continental Der Baron Project Apex...

3/11/2022 3:03pm It was definitely a problem for me on the DW DHR. I went through countless linkage-side DU bushings. For example I started with brand new bushing/hardware on the first day of a rainy whistler trip and there was visible slop in the bushing by the end of the day. By the end of the trip I was wrapping the aluminum...

3/7/2022 2:31pm I've been looking for that too- only ever found one of those DHF's with DH casing and dual rubber compound. Agree with TR- don't think Maxxis cares to make DH casings with anything other than Maxxgrip. Aggressor 2.5 with DH casing would be ideal rear tire for me (same old Dual compound rubber). Do any other tire companies make DH type casings with faster rolling rubber? I've tried a bikepark Schwalbe- casing was good- rubber was very very bad. I think WTB does tough casing/fast rubber but I've never tried them.

3/7/2022 1:34pm Nothing is available in a harder compound DH sidewall 27.5 from Maxxis, and the TB96800100 29" tire is as rare as rocking horse shit. I know it's kind of a niche product, but I also think Maxxis knows that Maxxgrip tires get replaced more often and they're not in a hurry to make our tires more durable. BTW, responding to MetaDave, I've definitely punched holes in the top of tires and pinchflatted the sidewalls, but my biggest "tire problem" has been denting rims. A lot of my flats throughout the years have been a total wheel destruction by hitting a...

3/7/2022 11:40am Is there a 27.5", folding bead, DH casing, non-MaxxGrip tire available from Maxxis? I know the 2-ply dual compound DHF is (was?) available in 29" (Maxxis part # TB96800100) but I cannot seem to find anything in 27.5". I love MaxxGrip on the front but it doesn't seem necessary or sustainable for the rear most of the time.
