hummm, if you're talking major MTB companies - I'm hoping this doesn't happen during my lifetime.

Dude, dude, dude... hear me out: I agree that you'd ideally want to have cage spring forces that are lower in the big cogs for easier shifts while climbing and higher cage spring forces in the smaller cogs for greater chain retention and chain calming during descents, and yes the current arrangement on the new dual-spring Shimano RD's is kind of the opposite of that. You know what could be done by Shimano to reverse the derailleur cage spring force problem? You know what they could do? You know what? RAPID RISE IS BACK BABY!!!!! LOW NORMAL THIS IS YOUR...

It all depends on the bike, tbh. I've ridden all the new Di2 stuff on a ton of different bikes, and I've found that chain sizing really matters. I've tested T-Type and the new Di2 back-to-back on the same bikes, and while SRAM does do a slightly better job of keeping the spazzing to a minimum, it's certainly not perfect. The dual-spring on Shimano takes about 5-6 lbs of force to break free when in the smallest cog on the cassette, and the SRAM T-Type clutch takes about 7.5-8 lbs to break free no matter what cog. The major difference...

Towards the middle of the month, there's going to be a presentation about Shimano's '27 stuff behind closed doors, for whatever that's worth.

That's the experience that everyone my shop has set up on new di2 has had as well, and these are some of the most noise sensitive people I've ever worked with.

I guess my experience with the new DI2 is unique, but I’ve been running the XTR version since the launch last year. It’s on my V2 Druid and Yeti MTe. Both bikes are quiet as a church mouse. Multiple weeks at bike parks, local Enduro races and weekly rips on my local trails. No noticeable chain slap from the rear mech. 🤷‍♂️

I got the new XT cable derailleur and the spring is fine, I think its better than the clutch in old XT.

Thank you. I feel a lot of people here have been riding longer than I have, but damn it’s been 20 years for me and 29ers have been around for half of it…a decade! It seems wild to have seen all those old dudes take their principled stands, be 100% wrong, and still be so confident that you’re not the old guy now…disc brakes droppers tubeless ebikes, those are all sick but for sure you’re gonna be right about this 32” thing?!?!? U crazy!

While I’m no 32er apologist. I’m old enough to remember this exact argument when 29ers came out. I was working at a shop in College when 29ers started to hit the market, people would come in and actually get pissed at us for having 29ers on the floor. Anyone remember anti-29er stickers on people’s cars? I can remember a few different stickers, one said “One less 29’er”. I even remember being at a trail head in Pisgah in college, my buddy unloaded his 29er from the back of my truck and a “local” said “those aren’t welcome here”. No one...

I posted this in the Suspension Component Technology thread but I thought it would be worthy of a post here. It's the designer of Yeti's Sixfinity talking about a bunch of different suspension designs, the engineering thought behind each, and talks about some specifics that a lot of other suspension chat sort of ignores or intentionally leaves out. He also mentions that the Four Bar Flex Stay works really well for an ASR and the Sixfinity works really well for longer-travel bikes. He also talks a bit about the Switch Infinity. He doesn't specifically say anything (yet, I'm not 100%...

John Tomac is widely considered one of the greatest (American) mountain bike racers of all time. During the early years of international racing he won numerous DH and XC events. He went on to be the namesake and involved with Tomac bikes. The 204 DH frame in the photo was their flagship model. The bike company then ceased to exist (in the late 2000s?). I also believe he helped coach several (a lot?) of racers over the years including Aaron Gwin for a time. Finally, if you’re into motocross, he is the father of Eli Tomac. Basically, John Tomac was...
