Observations from Race Day from an old head: 1. No one could tell me where Spomer was to cop a feel 2. Lars Tribus did a solid MC job smoothly with Grizz 3. Walking the pits during/post race brought back all the cruel memories of putting it all on the line. So many young, fit, intense people’s faces showing the frustration of a run just off from perfect. 4. The depth of dialed in rider/bike combos was absurd. Especially in the women’s field. had a super fun film sesh with neko and asa at kanuga yesterday. that vid will be released after sea otter. but it dumped rain last night and forecast implies it'll start to dry out. 4 hours of pro practice today, so will drop a raw tonight. should be a ripper!

The SRAM metallic Maven ones are solid, and the black ones are good too. They're a big step up from the pads that comes in Codes, for whatever reason. I tried the Galfer purples and didn't find that they offered any real advantage, and wore down faster. You can get the SRAM metallic ones from Backcountry without bolt & spring for <$10, so they're a great value too.

So, now that some of us are coming out of winter hibernation, wanted to get some thoughts on brake pad options. I did spend a week riding on Galfer green pads on a set of mavens and they seemed “fine.” However I’m not convinced they are that much better than SRAM metallic, though they did bead in super quick. I just haven’t been on a set of SRAM metallic brake pads in months (due to not being on a bike) and I can’t really decide if I should double down on Galfer greens, or just stick with SRAM metallic. raw is uploading right now (internet was fast, then slowed down, so it may be a bit). it was a killer day out there. weather was mint, track is FAST and definitely dusty. the world cuppers are nuts and so are the youngsters. their "normal" is at such a high level. walking the track, it felt like it had been sanitized a bit, but it sure doesn't seem that way with racers on track. the track has everything to it really, not to mention so many awesome, hateful compressions. what used to be the sketchy off-camber/sidehill into the slabby area...

An update to my Shigura experiences: I've decided I prefer the Servowave levers over the non-Servowave levers. Not because of the Servowave itself, but because they have the free-stroke adjuster. Interestingly I don't actually use the freestroke adjuster, on M9120 it comes already adjusted in the close to the handlebar position, on M9100 unfortunately the resting position of the lever is always too far away (for my tastes).

Is Hope about to come out with a new version of the Tech brakes? This looks suspiciously like a bleed port, which may see the end of those messy open reservoir bleeds. Presumably if that's what it is, you'd just need to orient the lever downwards to ensure the bleed port is at the highest point (which would also allow any bubbles to flow around the internal membrane, which typically has a pretty intricate shape). From all the vlogs I've seen from other riders, Jackson, Bernard, etc all thought he was crazy doing 95% laps all day, whereas they were all doing 80% for fewer laps. Apparently he was riding faster than anyone ever has in January before. Ronan was basically saying that that's where he thinks the sport will be in a few years, and he wants to be ahead of the curve. Essentially that hitting the gym and trail bikes over the winter then hopping on the big rig for DH laps a few weeks before the season is not going to cut...

I feel a lot of people that would complain about the gearbox efficiency making a perceivable difference to their enduro or all mountain ride would be the same people with overbuilt wheels, fox 38, cushycores, and downhill casing tires for multiple blues a maybe a black diamond trail for their saturday ride. Then finish it off with pounding back 4 IPAs and some cake later that day.
