7/20/2026 1:49pm My impression has been that most posters in this thread agree that GB with chain or belt have a justifiable place in gravity bikes. It's their use in XC and trail bikes that get pedaled a lot that is still a point of contention. Also, I'm not sure if this is common knowledge here, but a new discovery for me was that eCVTs with dual motors provide infinite gear ratios using just a single planetary gear stage with no belts or chains internally, which can bump up the efficiency over older belt or chain-driven CVTs substantially - probably something like...

7/20/2026 1:49pm I don't think anyone who understands the basics of gearboxes or derailleurs expects them to be a good fit for XC bikes in the foreseeable future.

7/20/2026 1:48pm Can we please not turn this into a d*ck-measuring contest regarding who rides which steep thing w/ which gearing?

7/20/2026 1:47pm I don't recall seeing info on the Blur 5 here yet, but I think both Tobin Ortenblad and Ruth Holcomb were on it at the BCBR.

7/19/2026 12:04am Agree. If you have spent any real time on the SID you'll know it's no Pike when it comes to damping quality. The chassis is fine but the damper gets a bit overwhelmed when in proper chunk. I have a SID equipped bike and it's awesome in the right terrain but it'll let you know when it's not happy. There is still a place for the Pike, especially with the weight gain of the latest Lyric.

7/18/2026 3:39am Blame Warner is a really bad take on this, Pon is shutting their factory down and cutting 120 jobs, Warner have nothing to do with this.

7/18/2026 3:37am On the Downtime Podcast, Chris Hall, Neko Mulally, and Olly Morris were speculating that Specialized can give just that little extra support. They only have so much budget to allocate, and when Loic is on the box every week, it makes sense to try and keep him there. Also, Jordan and Finn have both independently said that their mentality just sort of clicked this year. Finn finally got a strong training offseason this year after chronic pain in years previous. He then got the confidence to know he could do it. Jordan said he had some mental struggles previously, even...

7/15/2026 12:17pm They do. They even make a cam that makes a Shimano shifter compatible with an Eagle cassette for example. You can mix and match a bunch of stuff with the cams they offer. Props to them on that front.

7/15/2026 10:45am That was my experience with Eagle 90. Runs fine for a little bit, but the overall build feels "cheap" and just gets sloppy over time; the shifter is also meh. I currently have the Jab with an XT shifter, and it's been solid on every bike I've put it on; it doesn't feel like an RD that I need to worry about since it can all be repaired. Plus, Madrone continues to make updates inspired by rider and customer feedback, so each update actually makes sense...

7/15/2026 10:45am The Madrone Jab with whatever shifter you want solves that issue. I've been on all the latest drivetrains from SRAM and Shimano, and the Jab blows them all out of the water in pretty much every aspect - price being the only outlier there.

7/15/2026 10:44am I'm also 190 cm and also on a large, but the Aeris 9 is even larger than previous models. I was on an XL AM9 before (I have both bikes in the bike check section) and started feeling the XL is too big so I went with the L Aeris 9. Sadly it's zoo much bike travel wise for my current needs 😁 As for cockpit height, with a cut steerer and a 35 mm rise bar, the bike was unrideable for me. Granted it was only one ride, but it was transformed with a 55 mm rise bar. This...
