1/14/2025 12:31am It wouldn’t affect my buying decision. Here are some factors I consider when designing for a frame: IS head tubes have existed for about 20 years I’ve never seen a cracked one, whereas I have seen cracked press fit head tubes. This seems more important than angleset compatibility especially if I get to design the HT angle. This crack resistance is because with IS the highest stresses areas are recessed inboard from the head tube opening*, and there’s no press-fit-hoop-stress**. Both IS and ZS allow the down and top tubes to be further separated than EC; and the head tube...

1/13/2025 11:40am Phil Atwill and the Propain Positive team appear to have parted ways with Propain. Instagram is now labeled "Positive Crew". They're either up for grabs or stepping back from UCI level racing. Hopefully somebody gives them the steam for more World Cup racing, Phil has some of the most unique bike handling skills around.

1/11/2025 4:09am Man, I don't want to derail this thread even more than I already have today (and yesterday), but does anyone else feel like the term "Certified Pre-Owned" is a bit of a misnomer? They're clearly trying lean into the automotive market, where CPO is essentially defined term wherein the OEM has inspected the car, certified it, and is continuing to honour the warranty (and possibly extending it). Is TPC inspecting, certifying, and honouring warranties? (hint: the answer is no). I was curious about what CPO means in this case so I checked their terms of service; it means you get...

1/10/2025 1:39am Any talk about better alignment using a UBM is kinda silly. You have concentricity, parallel between axle and the outward mount hole, surface flatness between the mount and frame, in addition to the existing flatness and parallel of a traditional post mount. All in, it seems like more dimensional control is needed rather than less. This from the co that used concave/convex washers to fit between their caliper feet and frame/adapter mounts claiming 'irregular surfaces' at the mount faces while no other co had such issues (at least none that couldn't be remedied by facing the mount as you should...

1/10/2025 1:19am Sort of removes the U from UBH if you need to have different configurations for seat stay mounting and chain stay mounting. As Johnathan mentioned as long as 400 and 426 stay on the same member you can still have a pivot on the seat stay.

1/10/2025 1:16am Would this not limit frame designs from having a pivot between 400 and 426. Take the inverted 4 bar designs of a Forbidden Dreadnought for example. In a design like that isn't the distance between 400, and 426 going to change and not work with this?

1/10/2025 1:13am Thats how I read it as well, then the mount has a pinch bolt to clamp over that big post. Everyone stating this solves "complex" brake post alignment issues, the distance/angle between 400 and 426 will be very critical. UDH solved the issue of every bike having different and expensive hangers, we already have a universal brake mount its called posts and slotted holes on the caliper, its literally as universal as it gets you can adjust it and add spacers for different disc sizes and adjust for alignment issues.

1/8/2025 2:03pm That patent may be the worst written and non enforceable patent ever produced by SRAM. Also it appears to have been filed in 2021 before they got their ass kicked by Fox about their Narrow Wide "invention" that was created in the 1800's on a tractor.

1/7/2025 1:09am Joe, the 1000N was somewhat arbitrary, just to illustrate the flexing model for this article. Since it is an aluminum chassis, the model behaves as a mostly linear spring. Also note that I just have constant wall tubes, not butted, and the forging thickness are rough so take all of this data with a grain of salt compared to the real bike. While it depends on how the chassis members flex relative to one another, it should be mostly linear. For example, if you apply 300N, you would expect a displacement of approximately 300/1000 of the values for the 1000N...
