9/29/2025 12:34pm Let me fix that for you: all Shimano calipers usually start leaking when stored in any position for an extended period of time.

9/28/2025 7:29pm Not sure if this has been posted but got a picture of the bottom of the Brosnan's Boxxer at the US Open. I assume this is what's on the Zebb too.

9/28/2025 7:27pm I feel you, but some hardtails are legitimately comfortable (when reframed as gravel bikes…) speci Fuse is stiff and sucks, epic hardtail is compliant and feels so good to ride. im telling you guys, the majority of the gravel segment has never tried a mtb (thinks they don’t need one, overbiked, etc.) or doesn’t even need a “gravel bike” (just needs a road bike with 38s and lower gearing.) the gravel category exists because people think road bikes can’t have 45c tires and also that mountain bikes are silly and unnecessary for singletrack. What we see in practice though is...

9/28/2025 7:26pm FWIW I am amazed at how uncomfortable the ride is anytime I sit on a MTB hardtail. After racing xc on a hardtail for 6 years 20 years ago. Maybe a full suss gravel bike would make sense for someone used to a trail/enduro bike and the comfort it brings.

9/28/2025 7:24pm While there is a minority of gravel bikers who would truly benefit just from getting a mtb. I think the majority do gravel because it’s a pretty safe form of exercise. Trek’s choices will make it a good bike for both parties. The more adventurous gravel riders hitting single track can run fatter tires and the less adventurous can just have something that rides a bit smoother/comfortable than a rigid bike.

9/27/2025 9:15pm Interesting! Not sure how they got this far without picking it up, and I was going to speculate on other causes but decided against it. I've never worked on one of these And yeah having more oil on the seal doesn't help, although a failed RSU seal quickly makes a huge mess too. Ideally seals are always "leaking" a tiny bit to maintain a film on the surface, so the RSU fork should be getting at least some oil back up on the wiper. Good lubricating oil sticks to the surfaces so its not 100% relying on gravity. A proper...

9/27/2025 9:12pm Yeah that's rough - modern fork "wipers" all have an integrated oil seal and shouldn't be an issue here. It does look like they have a unique part number for podium seals but I haven't seen one so got no idea what's different. The thick 20wt gold oil can leak easier under certain circumstances (it would leak if you put it in forks with the old flanged seals) but that wouldn't explain the leak in the damper side which should be 4wt oil. So yeah its pretty weird - I don't see new forks leaking that often these days

9/26/2025 10:23pm Awesome, glad to hear you're digging it! This was the tire I mentioned a few pages back when we were discussing fast-rolling trail treads. I've been using it as a front tire on my 130/140 Stumpjumper for several months now, but for the launch at Whistler I mounted it front and rear on the Stumpy Evo. I was really impressed with it across the board. Between Whistler and a trip to Colorado right after, I put 180 miles, 25,000 feet of climbing and 40,000 feet of descending on them. Using the MaxxGrip/DD casing. The rear is about smoked, but I'm...

9/26/2025 10:21pm I recently got the new Dissector v2 (MaxTerra EXO 2.4WT) aka baby Assegai and it is exactly something I always dreamt of for a short travel trail bike (140/130). I use my small bike for XC type riding in the rockies. Conditions are usually very dry, loose dirt and loose rock on top of hardpack. The side knobs are wide yet not too tall. This makes them very stable and gives you that DHF level locked in feeling during hard cornering. Lack of side knob stability was my main complaint with Forekaster v2 and this solves that. The center tread...

9/25/2025 8:42pm The new 38 is ditching the current 38 air spring to go to a normal one where the piston runs directly on the inner stanchion instead of the current tube inside the stanchion setup. It will also be a glide core air spring. Should see some decent weight savings from that change alone.

9/25/2025 7:31am I wonder if US-owned companies utilizing Giant as a manufacturer will somehow get a pass. Seeing the shoot first, ask questions never approach of the admin, I doubt it, but it will be interesting to see what happens here. One of the great things about the Vital forum it it attracts discussion from people involved in all sorts of industries across the world, not just the bike industry. Anybody out there have any comments on whether there's been significant enforcement of anti-forced labour import laws in other industries or from other countries?

9/25/2025 7:18am Ibis has always been a boutique brand. Their frames are made in the same Vietnamese production facility as Yeti; they are very direct competitors. Almost as direct as you can be.

9/21/2025 5:35pm This has been my experience as well. Just stay on top of chain wear and you're golden. The drivetrain on this bike https://www.vitalmtb.com/community/ARonBurgundy,30923/setup,41567 is still in operation today and it was lightly used when I built the bike in 2020. I did retire the cranks out of caution as I wore through a few layers of carbon on the arms.
