I want to take a moment to thank Darren from Push, who has a small business to run, for taking time to weigh in and educate mouth breathers like me about what's happening inside our suspension stuff that goes up-and-down. I've learned a ton from reading so far. Thanks, Darren!

It's a kind of a partial block that changes the flow rate of oil on to the base valve, since reducing the cross section creates higher-velocity flow through that region. The analogy of putting your thumb over the end of a garden hose is most commonly used here - you limit the size of the hole so the water escapes the hose at higher speed (even once its left the hose and in to an "infinitely" wide region). It never fully closes, and the cross section of the valve is still pretty large so not directly adding much damping on...

HBO and Position Sensitive damping have been around since the early 2000's. The original FOX 36 released in 2005 had HBO... we've had SPV, Boost Valve, Curnutt, etc which have all been position-sensitive systems. HBO is still useful, but position sensitive less so now that most bikes have a pretty good rising rate linkage rate. -Darren

Rear shocks do not have Mid-Valves. Let's take a 170mm travel trail bike: Front wheel travel is 170mm, fork travel is 170mm. Front Fork Wheel Velocity Range is 0-9m/sec, fork velocity is 0-9m/sec Rear wheel travel is 170mm, shock travel is 65mm. Rear wheel velocity is 0-7m/sec, shock velocity is 0-2.7m/sec This is due to the fact that rear shocks are driven by a linkage or pivot system so the motion is not directly 1:1 like a front fork. Because forks are dealing with a larger travel and velocity range, mid-valves were introduced as another tuning element to reduce compromise...

The damping on a Grip 2 is about the static friction of the seals on the fork. Less than ideal. It's strange that there isn't a consensus still about damping rates, some pro's still ride fully open, other on Ohlins have a magnitude more damping. Poor Fox DH riders just have to rely on the spring to hold them up, hence the 6 tokens and huge pressure to stop it collapsing through compressions.

They are basically all like that.....even perfectly assembled they are extremely soft. Or if there is too much preload they will be harsh but still super soft. The shims are also 4mm, and there isn't enough stack height to add shims without losing LSC range anyway. So its a good idea, just not the best execution IMO

Jakob, When Steve at Vorsprung dyno’d the Grip 2 VVC damper and produced an essentially flat curve from full open to shut on the HSC clicker my impression was that he only dyno’d one damper. I’m wondering if the same results have been found on other Grip 2 dampers? It’s seems that the one he tested suffered from an incorrect...

I've got to say I've always expected a new Code caliper to pop up that does the same thing as ours. Hasn't happened yet. Kind of funny considering it's specifically designed to work with Sram parts you can find in bike shops. Whatever this new Sram brake is will determine the future of our Code caliper. I think the upper limit on brake power will be set by what is a reasonable amount of pad retract. I can't foresee people being okay with pad rub all the time so I don't think pad retract can get much less that what...

It works great, at least on paper. Sadly, all the parts that are stacked in vvc mechanism have to be made to tighter tolerances than fox is capable of doing, so in real world the leading shim either has preload(at least in this case it has tuning range)or float(in which case high speed adjuster does next to nothing and overall damping is also very soft. If some really high end manufacturer like ext of bos came up with this mechanism I would believe they are capable of keeping the tolerances tight enough, but with fox? Forget it, only hight end...

I race moto and MTB. Moto is more expensive especially as you get faster. Don’t forget track fees, oil, gas, tires, chains sprockets, generally more gear, unless you live near a track there is the truck van etc transportation. When you are learning some things like brake pads will last you a long time, MTB tires are “almost” the same cost as moto tires but everything else is more on a moto bike. Good thing is you really can’t ride moto everyday like you can a MTB, so the cost do get spread out depending on how often you ride...

Look at that, this thread has stuck its head so far up its own ass, we're back on topic: ... the vaccine pass is not restricted to vaccination. Under the law that took effect on Monday, anyone who has proof they tested positive within the previous six months is exempt from having to show a vaccine pass. https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/france-bars-unvaccinated-rest…

JCL get your facts right first before posting. Vaccines reduce transmission, greatly reduce mortality, and Omicron is way way more deadly than the Flu. Fear based? Not fear for me. Trying to keep the elderly and immunocompromised safe and oh and it would be nice if I could get into the hospital if I happened to break my arm you...

What would the level of Mortality for a pandemic need to be to change peoples minds like Bizutch or FLFlatLander's? Let's hypothesize that getting the jab prevented a 12 monkeys type apocalypse, would they then be ok with mandates? What if the scenario was that the French government was not allowing riders to compete from Muslim countries "that harbor terrorists"...

I'll dive into this pile of BS thread head first for 1 post. I get to see people die at work from covid everyday, I haven't seen one vaccinated person die in the last 2 months If you want to control covid in order prevent the most deaths you have 2 options, vax and masking or super strict lockdowns and masking. In the US, the only way to get people to vax at a much higher rate will be for health insurance companies to refuse to pay covid related treatment costs for those that choose not to be vaccinated.

That last thing is coming. Just wait. Health insurance will pick it up. They will only be willing to provide free tests and masks for so long before telling the government 'no'. They do it obesity and other things. The argument about "liberty" is a weak one. The nation was founded on the ideas of liberty. But people frequently forget about the next part, which is license and social contract. You may have the ability to do something but you do not always have the right to do it. If it affects one, it affects all. These are John Locke...

What pressures do you run? Anything under 30psi in the rear up here in the PNW where the dank dirt and bermed trails = massive G's resulting in burped or tire blown right off the rim. I have been running tubeless off and on since tubeleess was invented. Last year I ran with tubeless on my am bike with Stan's ex Flows and 2.35 Schwalbes. If the dirt was good I was running 33#, which is a compromise traction wise.

Ian Collins Liked a product review Tested: Crank Brothers Iodine 3 Wheels

Review by Ian Collins // Photos by Fred Robinson and Ian Collins When it comes to wheels we all know that Crank Brothers have had a big hole to crawl out of, and they are the first to admit it. When they tried to reinvent the wheel a few years ago and introduced a radically different proprietary wheelset, things didn't really go as planned. The first iterations had some serious issues with the internal workings of the hubs, and the initial implementation of the unorthodox spoke design wasn't quite right. Crank Brothers dealt with the hiccups and the criticism, but...

I as a novice Mechanic find changing tires with the Tubliss system to be in fact easier for me, I follow the tubliss install method verbatim though. I could see mounting up a tubliss setup being harder for a seasoned moto mechanic since they have already developed a good technique for changing conventional tube/tires. Personally I have popped two of the inner high pressure rim lock tubes on the tubliss setup on my moto (running about 8 psi with a Maxxis Desert IT 18" 120) and dented up the rim as well, but I could never fathom running that low...
