I can assure you it wasn't. I am still riding the bike, but intentionally didn't have it in my possession until the day of launch, to avoid this exact thing from happening.

You have less to push against with a more linear bike. If you look at wheel force normalized for sag it all makes more sense than just looking at leverage curve. The wheel force is always identical at the sag point when normalized for sag. The more progressive layout will have a higher wheel force past sag and lower wheel force before sag in comparison.

You have to remember the true target market of this bike....if you really need that much extra resistance then a Tallboy is the wrong bike for you, full stop. The forum guys wanting to run a coil shock are a niche of a niche type of mountain biker so they aren't going to design the bike with that in mind. I also don't think its that far off, and they maybe chose to ship it with that shock spec so people can easily remove the spacers if that need to. And plenty of people have run coil shocks in bikes...

True a 2x4 is actually a 1.5x3.5”, but we did pretty much invent dimensional lumber, (lumber was basically custom milled to whatever the builder wanted up till then) which resulted in affordable housing…..We also have made several attempts at switching to the metric system starting with the Metric act of 1866, The Mendenhall order of 1893, Metric Cinversion act of...
Good pod on this on pulp. Apparently the Aluminum prototypes were awesome and McGrath loved em, but before the bike went into production the engineers back at HQ (Japan) decided to beef up the chassis for safety/reliability reasons and totally ruined the chassis, making it too stiff. Assuming u are referencing the 98 CR250 of course.

I'm also going to push back. One of the biggest problems with ebikes is they are way too stiff in the front triangle. I'd say external batteries that allow for traditional tubing have the potential to ride much better, but let's be honest the most important priority for how an ebike handles is how good it looks.

I think this is as close to a „for racing purposes only“ bike we’ll get from specialized. Who is the realistic target group for this? A few age groupers, the occasional dentist and maybe some kids sponsored by their rich parents. The ones who want it will buy it anyways, other than that I see it as an engineering exercise and podium representation at the World Cup for spesh. Low production numbers, complex molds and layup, high structural requirements and engineering costs, it was never gonna be price competitive and i don’t think specialized will care about the hardtail dad...

Of all the dumb ebike comments in this thread, this one really got to me. "Ebike motors are controlled by analog PWM signals. So they are actually analog by the literal definition of analog." For the 18 people who up-thumbed this, care to explain what the fuck an "analog PWM signal" is?

I think the confusion comes from the idea that anolog is the opposite of electronic. The extra stupid thing is that PWM (assuming pulse width modulation) is digitally controlling and analog output. So yeah, the motor is an analog output, but it's still an electric motor controlled by a digital signal sent by a computer, and not the same thing as a non-motorized bike.

Crankbrothers was doing some wheel-related math, and had rumors that Bruni is racing flats at select World Cups this year.

Hey all, I can finally take off my very sneaky blue tape camouflage to reveal that yes, I’m reviewing the new Nomad. Because I’ve spent so many years on the old Megatower, I’m framing this as a Megatower vs. Nomad comparison. Especially interesting for me because of the rumors that the Megatower is going away and the new Nomad does not take 29” rear wheels. I only have a couple rides in on the new bike, but so far the geometry feels really good and the bike feels solid and stout. Weirdly I haven’t been able to figure out the...

I don't know their exact reasoning but I would guess the dimpling is more repeatable than anything else - controlling the surface finish before and after anodising is probably challenging, but also the aluminium tubes do wear and can get smoother over time - these dimples won't. I saw someone posting measured surface finish values a while ago, and the RS forks were in a pretty good range (not too smooth) but the older forks were much smoother in the area where they were working the most. While a "rougher" finish is better than a highly polished one, it doesn't...

TEAMROBOT Liked a reply to forum topic Tire inserts - do you run them?

Huge cushcore fan and user here. Absolutely must have a Cushcore pro in rear wheels otherwise I will destroy them. The tire support for cornering is a nice benefit. I think I like the damped feel too, but that's definitely not the main reason I run them. I used to go through multiple rear wheels a year before Cushcore, which got really old. As others have mentioned, when I take a used Cushcore Pro insert out of my rear tire, it's completely knackered, covered in knife slits from the rim, which leads me to believe it's really doing it's job...
