I think it's doing Meg White a disservice to call her just an "influencer" - she's a legit racer with multiple national level wins. As for sponsoring influencer over athletes - remember, it's a marketing arrangement. The sponsor picks the people to support who will most likely move the needle in terms of sales. If racers don't want to lose marketing investment, they need to get better at being like Neko - a perfect blend of athlete and brand storyteller. The modern athlete in any sport is a brand. I’m all for paying racers good money but if all you sponsor are racers you’re missing out on a huge portion of the riding market. Most of riders don’t care that much about racing.

Seems smart. If a rider can bring in their own sponsorship money they can get a team together without needing to find more sponsorship money in order to pay everyone and force everyone off brands they have longer relationships with. Seems win win to me.

It would definitely be cool to work with more companies on aftermarket stuff. I’m not really sure why there’s pushback with links. No one (there are a couple of exceptions) is doing different options for their own bikes. It wouldn’t really make sense from a supply chain standpoint. The volumes aren’t on the same level as complete bikes. More options are always nice to have.

The bike industry is in the shitter, for sure. I’m still surprised any company can sponsor an enduro racer at this point. The coverage is almost literally nonexistent. No return on investment. Most companies are blowing out their bikes at crazy prices. I don’t see where sending a racer(s) around the world to race their bikes can be financially possible. They can’t sell enduro bikes based on results and race coverage if the coverage is refreshing a website to see who’s winning then getting a highlight video after the race.
