Can confirm, being over-rubbered sucks. Like playing piano with gloves on.

That's because no matter how they try to swing it, the Vala just hasn't been selling. No one asks about it or the bullit when talking ebikes in the shop I work at, most people ask about the Orbea Wild or Norco Sight and Range VLT, even the Aventon Current has more interest around it, but that's probably due to...

"... Horsting them will make them objectively better." there's is nothing objectively better about about a Horst link layout, all it does is provide a lower anti rise, which has its trade offs with geometry preservation. I sincerely hope that Kona doesn't go away from single pivots, because I like bikes with higher anti rise and the slight firming of...

I don't think the cycling loads will be an issue even with a increase in weight. It will probably hold up fine to higher stresses. The occasional high load events on an already fatigued frame is what would likely be a problem. I.e. it probably won't crack from just riding along, it will probably crack under a G out when it's fatigued and overloaded.

If you're at all familiar with the evolution of the drone industry over the last decade, you might have made the observation that DJI was to the commercial drone industry what Amazon was to the bookstore industry 15 or 20 years earlier. If you don't have a problem with a single Chinese vendor taking over 90% of all e-bike options, then I guess we just keep doing what we're doing. They definitely make a good product, but how hard will they try when they've wiped everyone else out? Just one outsider's observation.

Anna Newkirk interview... She definitely doesn't hold back on her feelings regarding USAC..

It's probably a lot to do with fatigue and the number of loading cycles the frame can take with that much mass on it. Increasing the load on the frame will reduce the number of cycles that the frame can be loaded, both axially and in bending, and that means the frame will fail more quickly. Both aluminum and carbon...

below is the amflow PR. you posted the PX which is $10k and has a 700wh batttery. PR and new konas are similarly priced, both with 800wh batteries. kona is alloy/bosch/mech drivetrain, PR is carbon/avinox/s1000 drivetrain. the PR is a 53 pound thicky (it's in my garage right now).

The discourse about the new Kona ebikes on Pinkbike is baffling to me. Clearly I'm out of touch, but I don't think it looks ugly, I think the geo is good, the Bosch motors are proven well supported and one of the best on the market, what's the problem?
Something I noticed today, On the Santa Cruz bike archive the 5010 is not listed as a current model, just up to 2025. I haven't heard anything about it being discontinued from my SC rep, but none of the other current models are marked like that in the archive.

John Tomac is widely considered one of the greatest (American) mountain bike racers of all time. During the early years of international racing he won numerous DH and XC events. He went on to be the namesake and involved with Tomac bikes. The 204 DH frame in the photo was their flagship model. The bike company then ceased to exist (in the late 2000s?). I also believe he helped coach several (a lot?) of racers over the years including Aaron Gwin for a time. Finally, if you’re into motocross, he is the father of Eli Tomac. Basically, John Tomac was...
