You mean you don’t want to cut away from an attack at the front group to watch ninth place pass a split that’s displayed on screen uncontested.

Finished men’s XC. The director doesn’t seem to understand the sport.

It's hard to root for WBD at this point. Other than Aaron Gwin doing commentary, I haven't seen anything in the coverage of the last two years that I could honestly say helped the sport of Mountain Biking.

Crankworks and Warner Bros are not non-profit, they generate revenue from the athlete's performance. It's up to both parties to define what is the value. Promoters probably want to pay as little as possible and athletes as much as possible. it might take a bit of pushing on each side to figure out the balance. it's healthy that athletes can get unionized to demonstrate their value.. Crankworks could also decide it's not worth the price and not have slopestyle. I would also argue that Bruni or Minnar extract their value from racing against other racers and if not enough racers...

Seems like you’re misunderstanding the point being made by “usual wall of positive noise bs”. If you want to pick apart his statement for factual inaccuracies, I’ll leave that to the PB comments section. Plenty of that going on over there.

Jeff, I love the world you live in where customers make educated product decisions based on balancing price against marginal utility. Newman's O's can win against big bad Oreo if they just work a little harder and make a better product! Sounds like my old school Econ classes, the neoclassical intro ones before behavioral Econ. In the world I live in, Oreo sells 100x more cookies than Newman's because of advertising, not quality, and their market share is growing every year. If I happen to want an Oreo, or a beer, or a cigar, that's due in no small part...

You just don't get it do you. These lazy GenZ'ers are too busy eating avocado toast and using pro-nouns to get real man jobs so they've blackmailed a totally altruistic organization to fund their globe trotting lifestyle of doing jumps on little bikes. I am of mediocre skills and I have no appreciation for what they are doing so assign it no value. I have had all the ambition kicked out of me but I feel angered that someone feels they have to stand up for their selfworth because I am bitter about how my life has turned out. I...

'the suffering is the point' is a meme phrase against ultra-capitalist behaviors. I was bringing up the desire for suffering in jest and you doubled down and basically said 'yes, you are correct'. The personal insult is noted. Well played. You win. If it's personal we won't achieve anything any longer. Enjoy your thread. Suffer well, friends.

I'm actually... Baffled. We finally did it. We compared the kind of life experience we're looking at to war. I like how standing up for your beliefs, working as a collective union, and bargaining for better pay is NOT part of what makes someone courageous. Apparently. Letting yourself get shit on and underpaid is manly and honorable. It's just the scrapes on the knees that cause irritation........

It would be super awkward if it came out that all the alternates/wildcards had day jobs... And were still struggling to get to events if they have to pay for fight hotel and food for essentially what is a vacation. That they have to have approved by management. Would be very awkward... If that turned out to be the case. (Guess we'll never know.) (But in the meantime we can make jokes about how people don't want to work, in regards to people who continually slam their bodies into the ground to get a slight edge on the next guy...

Sorry I missed this within all the replies. The protest is for the riders who do NOT have a team contract. Who are ending up NEGATIVE on the weekend because they a) are an alternate who don't ride the show or b) finish in a placing with no winning while having no sponsor contract. If they're lucky they have a flow deal to get free bike/gear. I don't know how I could possibly compare that to the NFL. Maybe college basketball where the players don't get paid while playing HUGE televised games. I guess that's okay? By this logic? They...

Talk about slope without comparing it to something nothing like slope, challenge level: impossible That may be a good idea for riders local to the event. Likely a bit harder for riders who are traveling in. To a certain extent, in a really roundabout way, that is how the event is run as the city puts up a ton of money for it. And of course the bigger question that CW probably won't reveal is how that budget is spent. Comparing a single lower totem pole rider of an obscure sport to an entire soccer team is definitely a take...
