Did someone say he had an off year? I missed that. I think people are talking about a farewell season because of his age and recent injury. I suspect the GOAT will want to go out on a high note, not linger until all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.

"My conclusion is that it's not progressing the sport." Which sport? Maybe not racing, but MTB, definately. It is literally seeing how big and how far it is possible to go on a mountain bike. It's the equivalent of snowsports and big chutes, and rampage, but judged by a clock, not a score-card

Note that the few people not agreeing with the original comment seem to only communicate through psychotic insults... I'd like to see vital take more of a Hardline with the banhammer if we can't have a simple discussion.

Could also be looking to set himself up into a leadership role within a team, perfect way to get his eye back into it by racing a season as a bit of a 'farewell' (would imagine he'd get huge media attention) and then retire and get a position within a team?

I think both will continue with Atherton. They are a big team, definitely they have the budget to keep both of them. Top results for Charlie and Andreas this season, it looks like they found the setup that works for them. The bike is insane, I would live to try one.
