posting a question i heard it in a text thread - WBD signed an 8-year deal w/ UCI in 2022. how does ditching one of the events before the contract is up work? is it breach of contract? does someone get paid out? are they vague b/c they're sorting those details out?

It's an unbelievably vague press release. My first thought was that they were trying to sugarcoat "We're killing the series forever" in positive-sounding corporate-speak, but on second read it's kind of wishy washy and undefined, like maybe the UCI is exploring ways to offload the series to another organizer or multiple organizers, which is what it was all along until Chris Ball sold it to the UCI. Sad it’s finally dead, stoked for the future. I don’t think enduro as a format is dead, but it needs to go back to people having adventures in cool places.

Worth noting- broadcast pricing is planned to start at ~$10 USD (depending on exchange rate at the time). This won’t be a normal race broadcast as you know it- we are building out a full show, and when racing goes live we’ll have 40+ cameras on course.

How is GoPro not related when I'm watching winning world cup race runs week in and week out on the GoPro Bike YouTube Channel? (Daks helmet sponsor too) On YouTube GoPro Bike has 91k subs vs GoPro Snow at 152k. I honestly thought the gulf of bike to snow would be much larger. Seems like bikes are a huge segment of the market for GoPro (and it's slowly slipping to Insta360 and DJI) I bet a fair amount of people in here have owned a GoPro and basically only used it on their bike. Dude, dude, dude... hear me out: I agree that you'd ideally want to have cage spring forces that are lower in the big cogs for easier shifts while climbing and higher cage spring forces in the smaller cogs for greater chain retention and chain calming during descents, and yes the current arrangement on the new dual-spring Shimano RD's is kind of the opposite of that. That's the experience that everyone my shop has set up on new di2 has had as well, and these are some of the most noise sensitive people I've ever worked with.

Honestly, with how much 32 has been prototyped and with the imminent release of forks, wheels, and tires for 32, I don't think it's going to be nearly as big as people thing. We should be seeing a lot more 32 at races and other events than we are, this feels like it's going to be a lot more like 27.5+ tires and wheels than anything else.

Trust me, I get it. I feel exactly the same. I'm honestly getting a bit fatigued by all this pseudo-innovation lately: 32" wheels, competing derailleur hanger standards, electronic 13 speed group sets, 1700w ebike motors, new hub standards - I neither want nor need any of it. Because at the end of the day, all of this is just going to make everything more expensive but won't make a difference to my actual day-to-day enjoyment of cycling.
