The IC can be under the chain line and chain tension can still pull the suspension up in its travel. The point at which chain tension is neutralized is when the IC is located on a line that intersects the hub and the cranks (idler in the case of an idler bike).

If you look at how much of the anti-squat is due to chain tension as opposed to axle path, you can get a fair bit more information. The same anti-squat numbers may get you identical seated pedaling, but if the component that’s due to chain tension is different you’ll get different behavior on larger scale compressions.

This is just a guy who has got entirely lost in the weeds. There is no "antisquat theory" that some cabal of bike engineers is pushing. Antisquat can be calculated several ways but the results are always exactly the same. It's a proportion of drive force acting on the shock to weight transfer on the shock. Moving your pivots anywhere on the bike doesn't change this. Pedal-kickback is a much less well defined metric (especially when considering some of the dynamic effects) but the metric is still fundamentally tied to the geometry of a chain-cog system. You can propel any bike with chain growth forwards by bouncing on the pedals. If there's no force on your feet from the chain tension then you should be able to remove your feet from the pedals and bounce and get propelled forwards. That's not happening.

I suspect if you dug into the logic behind the "statics regime" you'd find a fundamental flaw or two. I suspect the logic is that if the IC is on the chain line then chain tension would have no net impact on suspension movement. Assuming equal chain growth numbers, no linkage system can make your wheel more likely to roll forward as opposed to rotate the cranks backwards. Matt Beer can ride a bike but he has said some bafflingly wrong shit in the past when talking about how bikes work. He's not a great resource for technical stuff IMO. edit: and if you disagree then go and read his "article" about fork offset and compare it to how steering geometry actually works. I'm sorry, I can't help it: An impact that " forces the rear wheel to rotate forwards" is the same thing as an impact that " deals with chain growth by rotating the pedals backward or stiffening the suspension." In the above diagram, the red force is the impact at the rear wheel. I'll be straight with you, a lot of the explanations don't make any sense. They kind of give me turbo encabulator vibes. It's impossible to have chain growth and no pedal kickback. Considering they call them “isolated” pistons and there’s a visible line inboard of the edge of the piston, I think they are using an insert for insulation like a lot of brands are. You can see a very real increase in caliper temp using stainless pistons. I would not want aluminum with no additional insulation.

One interesting thing with EPDM that arguably makes it an excellent choice is that it doesn't really melt or anything when it goes over its max temp. It just starts to degrade.
