I am sooo impressed with Sam Hill, honestly thought it was more of a media stunt for him to be there. Eating my hat, that man is STILL one bad ass rider!

From what I can gather, almost all D2C and online fulfillment will eventually be consolidated into that massive warehouse in SLC they picked up roughly a year or so ago. Along with many other things like all warranties, wheel/suspension services, and their internal schooling. As for all the well wishes…thank you. I’ve been turning wrenches for almost 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve had the rug pulled out from under me. I’ve already poked my head around locally and pinged some friends and things don’t look horribly bleak, so I got that going for me…which is nice.

@TayRob sorry about the bad news. Been (am) there! Maybe we should start a bike industry job thread where we post up positions and people like TayRob can throw up their resume. Probably too low of a volume, and I know other sites exist for this? I like to think the color one can garner via forums like this adds a little special something, but maybe I'm wrong. As to this question, Fox seems completely healthy. I did a pretty thorough analysis a few quarters back, but nothing stood out as being problematic. They seem to have really good management...

I got a 9am text message from our regional manger saying to give him a call, he said we were shut down, and to refer to one of our HR people with any questions. We’ve got three days to get our personal stuff out of the building, and they’re thankfully paying us through the month of February so all of us have a fighting chance to possibly find work. There was no warning, no communication from anyone high up enough in the company that could make a decision like this, and little to no remorse for booting six people out...

They also quietly closed all of their US direct to consumer “fulfiment centers” as of 9am this morning. Source: I was one of the employees who woke up to not having a job.

Who else thinks Greg won't make it all season without hoping on a bike for a race, even if just for giggles?

As of September 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) reported $40.21 billion in debt, while Walt Disney reported $45.82 billion in debt. Using massive debt to buy exclusive rights then charging more than many people are willing to pay doesn't seem ideal.

Sorry to hear about the issue with your frame Kusa, that's a bummer, but glad things are being handled under warranty. FYI, Rocky Mountain paints replacement/warranty frame parts to match in it's Saint-Georges, QC, offices, not the BC one. There's a massive warehouse there with a paint shop which allows to colour match frames as needed. We can usually match anything still under warranty (so 5 years, sometimes more). As for shipping, Rocky Mountain has a bunch of parts and warranty orders ready to ship, but due to the restructuring proceedings, we are working with our different courriers to be...

The news "leaked" almost a year ago but you can find comments that it happened well before then. Can't blame you for missing it though, OneUp seems intent on keeping it quiet so they can trick consumers into thinking they're just 29 nice guys up in Squamish and your money is all staying locally.

Despite all that I don't think he will land one of the 5 season long team wildcards. The 8 per race team wildcards makes no sense at all, who'll sponsor that? As WBD (and UCI?) think the number of riders at the races must be reduced I'm surprised if more than half of those per race team wildcards will be actuated. US cycling federation is different and I can see him there. But to me that's a matter of (lack of) opponents/competition, as well as broadcasting.

Traditional drivetrains have become amazing at shifting under load, but still not ideal. Pinion is suffering here too as the forces in the mechanism are high. It's not impossible to shift under load, you just can't as a user, you can't generate the forces needed. Rohloff does indeed have increased drag. Just like the classified 2spd hub. Don't know how the shifting works with it. While I don't have experience, I am read into the issues with gearboxes and shifting under load. Pinion and effigear at least, no ideas about Rohloff (it's a niche within a niche anyway...). With Pinion...

Uncle B will be able to break it down best, but there are a handful of routes to World Cup start gates that don’t include being on those 15 teams with the most points. You can be on one of the 5 teams that gets a rose from Chris Ball, due to your popularity / drug use / sponsor. Very cool. You can be a national champ. Simple. Your team can be invited with a week to go. Fun! You can be fill-in from a farm team back home once. Or maybe twice. You can also rebel run the course...

so the alternates are considered under a bunch of different criteria, that can be summarized as "cover for the UCI to choose who they want." We don't know for sure all the details of Gwin's team, but the way it looks right now, it's likely if his team is chosen, it's at the cost of another team that has more UCI points than his team has. So either Gwin races and somebody else deserving doesn't, or vice versa. and that's what the UCI wanted.

I tried to read the new UCI team list on the other site but gave up about 20 words in before my head exploded. So, only riders on top 15 teams can race and 5 alternates? So where does that put Gwin Racing? I mean, the guy's won more WC races than any other American (save Julie Furtado, maybe)...are we gonna get to see him race this year? Did WB fix it so that they get him as commentator only?! What about other teams like "Rogue Racing"? If you're not on a top 15 team, you're on the sidelines?! If...

The immaculately honed skills of the French riders differs immensely from the wild flair of the British riders I mentioned . Thomas estaque and Hugo frixtalon are entertaining skillful riders who are completely different to Benoit, loic and loris and amaury. Those boys are elite racers who have have supercharged wild winning runs but they're not the guys who pull sick whips and doubles when they don't have to . Some of the most entertaining riders in the past ten years have been guys who weren't on the podium regularly and it will be a shame to not see them...

Phil losing sponsorship almost annoys me the most out of all of this. All the guy has to do is post a phone clip on a dodgy pleney loamer and I'm convinced to buy the bike. Brands will regret giving up large engagment numbers on social media just to save a few quid in the short term.
