Buckets Up Added a comment about press release Öhlins Unveils New Visual Identity

I had to come back to this. As someone with no ‘formal’ training in branding, but someone who pays close attention and thinks about it a lot, I find it interesting how big marketing firms (I’m assuming Öhlins paid an outside firm) are often so far behind actual trends in certain spaces. At absolute best they ride just behind the crest of a wave and they are definitely never out front. This rebrand might’ve fit better in a more tech oriented arena, but mtb (at least historically, maybe e-bikes will change this) draws way more influence from places like skateboarding...

Is it just me, or does the symbol look very oral? Like the double arrow direction idea though...

This is disappointing. I don't know why companies insist on taking their iconic logos and brand recognition and then throwing them in the trash. If it ain't broke then don't fix it! I will miss that iconic Ö and the yellow and blue (swedish colors).

New logo and font looks like trash. The old Ohlins branding is iconic and timeless. Whoever greenlit this redesign should be fired.

In addition to transitioning into Pickleball, Forged + Bond is also diversifying into other booming industries, like selling 6 7 shirts and a new patent-pending machine that gives you a haircut like Patrick Mahomes.

As a designer by trade there is a lot I don't like about this. I do think the typeface works, and honestly, they should have just used the Ö for the icon. The Venn Diagram inspired mark is where all my issues lie; the shape is too similar to the chiseled "O" but also different enough to where it looks out of place and provided no cohesive tie to the typeface. Plus, the visual balance is off, the diamond inside the icon should anchor to the cap height and baseline of the "Ohlins". Simplest solution is usually the best one...

A lot of words for some flawed study. Optimal zone 2 is between 60% and 70%. How much of your ebike time was below 60%? Does your HR not have an upper and lower alarm setting? Were you just riding be "feel" then looking at the data after? Could you not have backed off or clicked into an easier gear in the spots where you were well above Zone 2? Mtb on varied terrain is just crappy for steady state zone 2 and this is well know. Flat road is going to going to be better as it's much easier...

Reminds me of the Orwell quote...some ideas are so stupid only intellectuals believe them.

This seems like a strong attempt to rationalize an e-bike for an excuse to use an e-bike. You could just as easily tailor your effort or course on a standard bike to hit values that were the same. And as someone pointed out, highly variable mountain bike trails probably aren’t where you should be doing your low intensity/high volume work...

It's not tennis. We should never put the pressure of having a minor take their life in their hands to win $3000 trying to beat a seasoned 10 year professional with an unlimited budget & depth of experience that simply can't be replicated. A 16 year old, well guided or not, would more often than not, risk getting paralyzed to get in finals. There will always be a Jackson or an Asa. But part of why they can put down a time that rivals the best of the Elite field is they're racing their peers. Teens. Removing Junior category leaves...

As the feeders series sit now, I do not think they are ready to fully help develop the juniors. I also see World Cup teams holding on to established pros longer before taking a chance on a junior if teams haven’t had a chance to see the young riders on the same tracks as the elites. The generational riders like...
