Bristecom Added a comment about press release Öhlins Unveils New Visual Identity

This is disappointing. I don't know why companies insist on taking their iconic logos and brand recognition and then throwing them in the trash. If it ain't broke then don't fix it! I will miss that iconic Ö and the yellow and blue (swedish colors).

I hate that someone got paid lots of money for that, especially that Venn diagram.

I can get along with the new typography, but the iconic "Ö" is hideous

Having a marketing degree (I know, it means nothing), that "Soul of Heritage" diagram... Ooof, that's some high on schrooms, drinking the kool-aid, cult level marketing. Congrats to the Italians.

As a designer by trade there is a lot I don't like about this. I do think the typeface works, and honestly, they should have just used the Ö for the icon. The Venn Diagram inspired mark is where all my issues lie; the shape is too similar to the chiseled "O" but also different enough to where it looks out of place and provided no cohesive tie to the typeface. Plus, the visual balance is off, the diamond inside the icon should anchor to the cap height and baseline of the "Ohlins". Simplest solution is usually the best one...

New logo and font looks like trash. The old Ohlins branding is iconic and timeless. Whoever greenlit this redesign should be fired.

Very impressive, but will we see one at the EWS next year? This bike might be too forward thinking to make a race debut just yet. Definitely a contender for my next bike, though I doubt I can shred as hard as the rider in this vid

What I can tell you is that they LOVE the ZA climate! Been running one on my Nomad for a little while and it is on a whole different level to anything else I've ever used.

Not true. Ohlins makes their own dampers and gets all their parts from Swedish manufacturers. The only thing made in Asia is the fork chassis. No affiliation to X-fusion. I think some originally speculated this simply because X-fusion made a fork with gold stanchions/uppers that resembled some Ohlins forks but that is totally a coincidence or X-fusion trying to mimic Ohlins.

Why? Ohlins makes the best forks and shocks for MTB/DH in my opinion (based on many comparisons). I'm very glad they got into the market despite a few hiccups. They just need to fix the issues (which they are), not just give up and completely get out of the market.

Hi everyone, nice to see so much debate arising, great to see the engagement between users. I'll explain some of the topics as best as possible without making it too long winded or over complicated. The springs are dual-rate, this is the precise term and is unambiguous. There are two discrete linear rate stages observed throughout compression with a small transition section between the two. ‘Progressive’ unfortunately seems to mean more than one thing, but it would normally be described as a continuously varying rate observed throughout travel, as you might expect when compressing an air spring. The springs do...

They've been making progressive fork springs for motorcycles for a long time and they don't expand. And if engineered and used properly, they won't bind since the spring rate is just much higher at the end. It's not relying on physical contact/binding to provide the ramp up - that would be retarded.

I think the proper term is "progressive spring" not "dual rate spring." And from the sounds of it, these are likely made by Eibach Springs.

As the article says - Fox doesn't have a 29er 170mm fork yet. Bushing overlap would be a bit thin even if they did manufacture an air piston for the race guys. Basically, it'd be a full custom fork. That said, I bet it'd work just fine...but yeah, you know how engineers get when it comes to being cowboy* (*doesn't apply to David Camp)

29" DHF DH casing: 1295g; 29" cushcore: 248g. That's 1543g, plus sealant in there. Freakin beast.

Plus, say, his wheelset has to be around what? 1800 grams? So that's 1500+1500+1800= 4800 over TEN POUNDS in wheels and tires! CRUSHER!
