I stopped riding my ebike and rode the natural short travel trail bike every day this week. It's just more fun. Less decent for the same amount of time. It's been glorious.

Little insight I got. July release for yeti Avinox cvt system is not 100% and far out from coming to the market. Apparently issues with the system auto shifting down when rider puts high watts combine with motor. Sounds like System protecting itself. It wont this year. They made the mistake of designing it without a gearbox. Scrapping the whole lower half of the bike.

At this point I’m realizing that I’m most sensitive to bar height when descending and seat to grips when seated climbing. I would say for my local riding I prefer shorter wheelbase with a slacker seat tube angle. For dh I prefer both longer reach and wheelbase. Getting older and pickier sucks. Wish I could just hop on and swing off it without overthinking. Every once in a while I can and that keeps me going I guess.

I agree . I’m really really really sick of the constant work I have to do on ALL THE DRIVETRAINS in my family of four’s garage. On gearboxes, I don’t think the average rider cares as much about efficiency as we think. We’re seeing this play out with radial tires. Less efficient, more grip. Everyone wants them. We forget bikes are products, not some B2B contract deliverable that has to meet a spec sheet. What tech could realistically convince everyone who has an amazing bike now (and probably got it on sale) to drop $6k+ on a new bike? Maybe it’s gearboxes, maybe it isn’t, but there’s no denying they’re in the running. If the industry wants to sell me a new park/DH frame to replace...

Absolutely. But it's not hard to play this out: the MGU is positioned to become a mainstream option, and plenty of riders will feel the benefits of shedding all that weight from the rear axle and removing the clutch's influence on suspension action. If it works well on ebikes, it's only logical that demand will grow to bring it to pedal bikes. The recurring counterargument that "derailleurs can easily be self-serviced" doesn't hold up. As the tech develops and becomes more widespread, it's clear that a gearbox system will come out significantly ahead on maintenance and durability.

Meanwhile derailleur drivetrains need constant adjustment and eat consumables, especially on ebikes. Gearboxes will take over ebikes within a few years — the motor negates the efficiency loss, the weight is low and centered, and ebike torque destroys conventional drivetrains anyway. Let's not forget 2nd place mens overall for enduro world cup is currently on a gearbox belt drive bike - gearboxes are coming for pedal bikes too people. Idk how anyone in their right mind defends a derailleur. Seems absurdly obvious that a gearbox will soon be the better option for most long travel applications. It will start with ebikes and continue to make its way to DH/Enduro/Trail.. XC might be a while. An encased system with the weight at the BB is going to beat an exposed system hanging off the rear wheel.

As a 6‘2 guy with long legs and BMX background, I find it awkward to ride bikes with high ST and shorter dropper. When I see a kink in a seat tube or a schock going through it, I instantly know the bike/frame is not for me. Btw, can someone tell me why not ALL seattubes (apart from those with schock tunnel for suspension-layout needs) are dead straight all the way? as much as everyone treats reachnumbers as the holy grail, i stopped caring. in the last 6 years i rode 4 different bikes between 515 and 470mm and every bike was great for another reason. all of those bikes were enduro, long travel trail bikes whatever you might call them.

I just want balanced geo and tall stack on XL. I feel like that shouldn't be that crazy of a concept but thats what I am after. shorter reach (sub 500) tall stack (660+) steep seat tube angle (78 or so) chainstay doesn't matter as a number to me (just want 1.8-1.82 ratio in the bike)

Gearboxes are here. High output Analog bikes will still skip them until the gearboxes get way way lighter and smoother, but I think it’s also one of the only things left to push a concept with the geo and suspension designs so dialed. Yes. Chains will be wear they end up tho. Because chains survive mountain biking way better than belts. And are repairable. But none of it matters until tech rumors has more rumors - and that means either 1. Pinion goes hard on a new design or 2. A disruptive box maker comes in with something very clever

What's with the carbon CC bikes? What innovation have these bikes seen in the recent decades? Seems like you conveniently disregard all the additional drag, dropped chains etc that come with high pivots. There's no high pivot xc bikes that I know of, does that mean high pivot is not worth it? I'm not literally saying that every bike out there should have a gearbox. I'm just pointing out the paradox of people making their bikes much harder to pedal over the past few years, often for much more marginal gains than what's on offer by eliminating the derailleur. I...
