I've honestly been pretty thrilled with my Hope Evo GR4 brakes. Paired with the Galfer ebike pads and TRP RS05E 2.3mm rotors and offer tons of stopping power and lots of modulation. I'm about 205-210lb geared up and they have no problem stopping my fat ass on my ebike. Once I get my dh bike back together I'm gonna pair the new Lewis AX lever with the maven caliper and see if that offers a little more stopping power. Don't see a reason to go back to the stock maven lever at this point, maybe they'd be improved with that...

I wasn't kidding! Many of the fire roads here get plowed which gives us access to the same DH trails we do in the summer. It is a BLAST ripping down and black diamond descent on a comfy fatty like this. We also hike a bike up summits and bomb down those as well. I have also podiumed a XC race on this beast haha I found a cargo bike Garmin rear light mount off amazon and polished it to match the bike. Worked great for my head unit.

3/2/2026 6:12pm I have no experience with the GR4s but the T4V4 mod didn't work for me - pistons don't retract properly and the brakes lock up quickly, both ends.

The XX chain or any of the transmission chains are insanely hard wearing and very strong overall. I have 3 seasons on one that came with the XX groupset and still can't measure any hint of wear using the latest gauges. Probably close to 160,000+M in vert and thousands of kilometers on the MTB. I think they really meant it when they say this system will last the lifetime of the bike.

Since I've been reading all the comments, I wanted to clarify that there's a world of difference between these two genres of responses that keep popping up in this thread: "Previously I'd never ventured beyond the manufacturer's recommended size for my height, but then I tried sizing up and it's my preferred frame size now". vs. "I've tried many different frame sizes, including bikes that are bigger and smaller than recommended, and I'm pretty confident that I know what my preferred size is. I had a Nomad and sold it to go down to a Bronson. If you're looking for a poppy and energetic ride, a 160/170 bike with 38mm fork is just not the same. I tried setting the Nomad up with that intent and it's just not the same.

One of my friends has t-rex arms and ended up getting professional help with his on-bike posture/setup/fit. He ended up on a wild Dak-style setup with ~80mm risers on his enduro bike and said it was like night and day, didn't realise how unbalanced he was or how limited his movement on the bike was. I really don't like how short some manufacturers cut their steerers. IMO they should always come with the maximum amount of stack between the headset and stem as dictated by the fork manufacturer.

2/19/2026 1:48pm I'd also look at Canfield bikes. They punch above their ... travel. 😅 They are built for abuse so the Tilt, although only a 140mm bike, may fit your needs as well. And they seem to be having some good deals going now.
