Let the speculation begin: would Peaty have had the same shot in the arm that Minnaar got when he switched to a long 29er? Did he retire too early? If this is his pace on a HTLT, how fast can he go on an XL V-10 29er?

It really struck me during his Ft Bill race run. In the upper rock sections, it looked as if he could stiffen up his arms and legs precisely when he wanted to, and the suspension would just work that much harder. No matter what shaft speeds it encountered it always had room to work a little faster. But somehow the bike would hold its speed well while doing that. Often times, the more compliant setup can rob forward momentum, but his has the perfect balance of absorbing the hits while storing enough energy to keep positive pressure on the wheels...

As bikes have become more capable (and my skills improve... I hope) I'm finding I need less and less "mechanical" advantages and am preferring a more "spicy" bike to keep the trail alive. 800mm bars have done a great job of stabilizing a front end at speed, while a steeper HTA allows a lot of side to side play on the trail. But I like to have fun on trails, I don't need to go faster in a straight line and make a trail boring. Racing is different as it's 100% speed, 100% of the time, which is more plow...

Well that is why we stated clearly that "yes, we do realize that this question is a bit strange in isolation, given the large number of other variables in frame design and intended use and all that, but we still think there is merit to discussing it in its own right," so no bonus points to you Captain Obvious for pointing that one out.

No, I have not seen anything published from PUSH or Vorsprung taking into account their air bump stop or hydraulic bottoming control valve. Our answer to this is simply adjusting the pressure in the High air chamber to adjust bottoming resistance. Most of our riders run what we recommend. The 2:1 ratio of air pressure gives you the most linear spring rate. For example: 50psi low, 100psi high Some non-aggressive riders may run less in the High chamber so they can achieve full travel more often. Agreed. Seems a bit of an elephant in the room. Here's my new 27.5" bike, and it says Niner in big letters on the downtube. When they went into receivership and were restructured they should've taken the opportunity then to relaunch under a different name IMO.

@dirtyberd Please see my comment as I offered a viable alternative ala Norco Aurum carbon. Its even bigger than the Trunnion bolts, if you think thats the important point. IMO, a traditional eyelet offers a flex/twist point which reduces stress on the shaft/seal/shock body/seal head relationship. In a perfect world everything would use spherical bearings, to minimize side load in corners and allow the shock to smoothly cycle regardless of frame tolerances. If you look at the frame in the picture there is room under the top tube for the extra ~15mm that an eyelet adds. While this may be...

LOokS LiiKE AH SEShUn With that out of the way, this looks like an amazing program. Kind of like Gwin's model, but with even more flexibility in frame design. The only fly in my ointment is the Trunnion mount on the shock, those need to die a quick painful death. Single shear bolts, course thread pitch, no secondary retaining device (pinch bolt), and the worst part being that the most expensive part of the shock is now a potential wear part.
