Is this the thread where we discuss costs for hosting a World cup?

Some speculations from Kolb on the matter regarding Schladming.

Schladming hasn't hosted a world cup for 16 years with the last in September 2009 so its a moot point. Clearly this has nothing to do with the WBD costs but a long term strategic decision by the Schladming bike park and local tourist departments on how they spend their marketing $$.

The Tasmanian Government has provided $1.4 million in funding to Red Bull Australia to deliver hardline over three years through to 2026.

In 2024 the event brought 1,600 interstate and international visitors to Tasmania, delivering more than a 4:1 return on investment and created benefits for regional communities.

Add to that the riders who have visited Maydena to ride after seeing the bikepark.

For you seasoned fans, where do you think is the best place to speculate on the Whiteface track? Going this Thursday, hoping for some pointers

I think probably upper woods for juniors, then work your way down over the course of the racing to the finish line for the end of Men's Elite. That will probably be what most people do.

I would like that, but having a moving throne on the hillside seems a bit excessive.

I second this. You start at the top, and work your way down the course. If you were staying multiple days you could hang out more in different spots, but Thursday is just practice so you want to keep moving. Wednesday is track walk day so I would watch all the videos you can and see how things look, and maybe you will find spots that you think will be cool to watch from. Just make sure you have food and water/electrolytes with you. Hiking sneakers/shoes are a must. I am sure it will be cool in the morning make sure you have a jacket, and you can take that off as you go down the hill. Make sure to have take a lot of picture. Dedicate some time for the pits. After practice riders will be in the pits for awhile, but you want to make sure to walk around, and don't be afraid to say Hi to your favorite rider or team. They are all very approachable.  If you see Jordy,, Loic, or BK please tell them BostonDon says Hi. I am unable to go myself I will miss seeing them do their thing. Have fun with your day!

Replace the bike seat with a bed pan. Gives new meaning to "dropper post."

You could probably speculate at the Mohawk Casino.  It's two hours away, though.

@BostonDonMTB electrolytes & a jacket?  I don't know you anymore.  You've turned into the Papa Smurf of DH.
What'd you do with full metal mosh pit Don? 🙃

New article out today about the failure to obtain proper permits for the track at Whiteface.

It also includes some direct comments from JW about walking away from the job.

Glad we have some jerkoff hell bent on keeping an active ski resort "forever wild"

With these types of people in authority, the bike park is never coming back.

I know, I know I hate being cold so that is why I suggested a jacket. The electrolytes just a thoughtful reminder to be hydrated. 🤣 I know that the temps are going to be different, but my first trip to Mont-Sainte-Anne in 2017 I didn't have water on me and it was hot and humid as hell. People on the hill saw me offered me water because I looked so bad. I was prepped the next day and the other time I went there and Snowshoe. I wish I could go there this weekend being that it is only 4 1/2 hours away from me in Massachusetts. I just don't have the funds to do it. If you are going have a great time!

That's a headline. Not really a fan of what singletracks has become with clickbait headlines.

Yeah, if that's the first, how many world cup DH tracks do they think are going to built?

9/30/2025 4:56pm

One of the trail builders posted a reel of him riding the course on an enduro bike.

Aaron told me that the majority of the spectator route will be on rider left side. It had to be a planned route due to the environmental restrictions.

Totally agree.  I've pretty much entirely stopped clicking Singletracks links because of the ridiculous clickbait titles.

"You won't believe the 15 mile singletrack this small town built!".  BOOOOOOO

Definitely wild to see what they've become. It feels like the whole thing is being staffed by a single person making use of AI, now.

Interesting post from Gwinny about a crash he had at the U.S. Open last week, and the onsite services that were available through Dirt Medical and NeruoCatch to diagnose and test for a concussion. Sounds like the next level in safety that DH races need.

OUCH!  Glad that Aaron gwinned his brain scan.  OK, "gwon".

I've finished at least two race runs with mild concussion, for sure.  One, I also didn't notice that my shorts (yes, that long ago) had become unbuttoned from the impact.  They were down to mid-thigh when I crossed the line.  I was not the Gwinner that day.

I'm worse. I live 30 minutes from Ride Rock Creek, worked Nationals 2 years ago & got 4 lift passes & have 1 pass left.
Granted...3 major surgeries in that span but still...we ain't as hardcore as we were. 🙃
At least you can drive down this way and do winter shuttles.  That didn't exist back in ye olden times.

Only ever had 1 myself. On my moto. Kept asking my parents "So is Danny gonna race my bike today?"  over & over.
A buddy kept repeating a question once over...and over...and over after he hit his head once.
Pretty sure we got him to just go ride his bike anyway to shut him up. But we didn't know anything back then.

I think they'll probably hit mid 40s, but that straight isn't steep enough to get much faster. I've straightlined that section of trail on skis and probably hit just under 40. The gradient of the hill probably won't be enough to overcome drag to go much faster than that.

I've got to go straight down the same ski slope on skis and bike & the bike is terrifying compared to the skis. Got up to speed on the bike so much faster.
Would love to see what the speed variation is between the two sports on the same gradient.

Wouldn't skis have drag themselves with the snow?  Ice & snow are still friction in a sense.

I noticed a month ago there are signs saying not a ski run at the entry points to A line

A line isn’t that fun of a ski as it’s pretty flat. Blue velvet is popular with kids but sucks for a parent as the whoops are meant for 80cm skis

Guys, please bring this type of chit chat over to the “Skiable mountain bike trails” thread, ok?
