Why make that regulation? In elites it says above they will have 80 men and 40 women. That makes half the number of men. So why not have it be 30 junior women?

Also, they make changes to small things like this all the time. Sometimes they make changes to the course after practice. Sometimes they change the schedule throughout the weekend. Sometimes they even allow a judgement call on a DSQ for leaving the course. Why can't they open up 5 more slots?

Look, man, I'm also a rule follower. My wife gets mad when we play card games (or board games, or lawn games, or whatever) because I insist we play by the rules. But, the important part here is that I don't care what rules we play by as long as we all agreed to them before the game starts. We can play with all kinds of house rules if we want to, as long as we all know. I don't like rules just because someone wrote them down one day. I like rules that make sense, and if they don't make sense for today then they should be changed.

So this scenario goes more like this: its a week before the race, and nobody has practiced yet. The organizers look at the start list and see that there are only 25 junior women. They say "you know what, we don't need you to take unnecessary risks during qualifying. You're all just kids, you came out here, and we can handle 5 more riders." The team representatives take a vote, and they decide if they want this, and the vote holds. Who is hurt in this scenario?

The problem with World Champs is you have both the UCI and National Cycling bodies involved. These organisation's raison d'etre is rules and their over zealous application. It's amazing the race happens at all really.

Wasn't there something farcical  to do with a jersey with Theo Erlangsen and the SA body last year?

Dang. My fantasy picks are def mixed up right now but... It's still fun to have to pick before qualifying. Def 'raising' the stakes (by lowering the odds). Feel like nostradamus on he womens picks and feel like a caveman on the mens picks.

If there's any race I'd love to watch live it's this one but... Well, maybe not for 30 bucks i dunno

Unlikely they went all out, I wouldn't put too much weight on today's results.

ya i tried to pick what i would call 'consistent/versatile' riders, with a lil emphasis on ability to hold it if rain comes through. but if it gets proper dry, i think my picks are gonna fail. im just wondering how well the top guys are fully racing the track in the dry, whereas wet champery seems a bit more survival based. where consistency is key. but if its dry the riders who can hang it out at speed like jackson are gonna smash it.

I did alright in Juniors, but my underdogs Hudson Tarling and Elise Porta didn't do great though. Here's my elite picks:

I strayed far from my usual strategy of picking all underdogs this round. Without quali info I had no idea what underdogs to pick.

same here. im hoping naturally the juniors points being smaller means its no biggie for the overall total. but i def dont think im getting any impressive ranking. especially with how elites are looking so far. but we'll see it's always a gamble, and a fun one. part of me does love this pre-qualifying format. will be fun to compare it to other races in terms of averages and highest score, to see if its roughly similar or if people just end up with half as many points.

im assuming far enough down the rankings you get 0 or maybe just one point, ye? as i know the current world cup rankings are only designed for a small allotment of riders. so i guess i assume any rider below lets say 30th elite mens, is just 0? dunno spomer would have to clarify.

I think that's the case. Now I'm thinking I'm an idiot for picking the elite underdogs that I did. No way they're getting top 30

so the bottom 50 riders get 0 points right? i guess it doesnt matter but i know world cup points go down to 1 at 30th place. and its not as though each rider below that will get 1 point. just 0. and yes i know its pointless lol. just curious cuz the structure doesnt directly transfer over. spomer would have to decide one way or the other. im assuming hes going with 0 for 31st-80th

It’s a rare day when someone gets a word in, let alone out-talks Needles. Is the constipated announcer being paid per word? Someone get this man a few drops of visine in his soy latté and a muzzle.

I hereby declare that I will never shit on Carlson and WB ever again. Call me Doctor HuckABuck-Gooley baby!

Does anyone else hate the drone follow shots? The quality is absolutely crap.

Whover the dude is commenating hes srreets ahead of Ric Mac

I think Neethling has improved a lot as a commentator the last 5 or 6 years.  Him and Wyn have a good thing going on the podcast this season . They might make a good pair for the commentary booth in a few years.

Yeah, the play-by-play guy might not be the most knowledgable when it comes to downhill mtb, but he's professional and is commenting on what's happening on track. So far I prefer him to Ric.

As for the race itself, Kiefer seems to have really risked everything and have put in a blistering quick time. Impressive

i take back my lack of enthusiasm for the champery track. in the dry at least, it's an awesome spectacle to watch! sick race! (and i had kiefer in my pool...but also 2 riders who didn't get points). will try to get to fantasy results today.

Thank you.

Neethling seems like a fine legacy dude to have around, milquetoast but harmless. The other guy really came across as a comedian doing a bit. He’d trail off four different times on his way to mis-mumble a rider’s name in that cover your mouth as you cough way. Truly remarkable to witness, he steamrolled Neethling with sludge the whole time!

Big couple weeks for Squamish riders with Elly Hoskin also getting the jersey in Enduro. That’s 5 now for the local riders.

I never found a way to watch the freaking race. My HBO Max account won't let me watch it even if I log in with a European VPN.

FloBikes I'm not paying $12 stupidly for a single viewing.

UCI and media can burn to the ground man!
