Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew
Fuck yeah Oli!
I know it doesn't get the purse but is that the first belt to win a world cup?
I'm glad you got to see it. "Video unavailable" popped up on my screen halfway through Till's run. I guess it's because I paused watching to take a phone call. Refreshing does nothing and it's no longer on my feed. FFS I love this sport, but I'm getting close to just giving up with these useless twats.
I got a ton of points via the juniors but I'm really not sure about elites. I only picked 2 Elite Women because I didn't see a ton of value in that category.
Can the super boring commentary team please stop talking about "good vibes" . This is a tragedy
Would love pics of the winning bikes, guessing there weren't any last week because of the short turn around, but it's the perfect digestif after a week of tech randoms, which I happily gorge on. How about this racing though, so good!
Anyone else willing to post their team? Or is everyone keeping their cards under the table
“And she’s in third which I find to be the most interesting part”.
Funny classy way to address the fact Logar got skipped on the broadcast.
Whoa, Ken Roczen in the booth, that's pretty neat. Hopefully he takes a lap down the track after the race. 😂
Take a drink any time someone says "big man"
C.G. > Today’s commentary clownshow
Agreed. Would be ok for Ken for a rider or two but kicking the only person who’s been liked on the broadcast for someone who has very little insight on the race is a terrible call.
That was some race! https://www.vitalmtb.com/news/news/results-leogang-uci-dh-world-cup-elite-finals (even if my fantasy team nuked itself LOL)
Brian Cahal spotted on the coverage!!!
It’s punishment for Finn criticizing the commentary crew. What’s next, Marshawn Lynch commentating XC because SE made him a wheelie bike a few years ago?
I hear they're bringing in Leo Messi to comment in Val Di Sole. Next time the drinking game will be any time Ric says "If anyone can do it it's xxxx".
Need an official drinking game rulebook for next round, Fear and Loathing at Val di Sole…
Oh Canada! Again!
Pretty cool to see the results from all the momentum that's been building in the Canadian scene over the last 5-7 years.
In addition to the DH race, there's still an EDR World Cup going on in Leogang as well...here's a look at the practice action so far (the race is tomorrow):
DH race highlights coming in hot:
Elite Men:
Elite Women:
Junior Women:
Junior men:
fantasy results should show up in the next 10-30 mins. @FerrousBueller - once results are live, you can see other people's teams (if you didn't know).

what a crazy race!
re: roczen in booth - he's rad guy and really good mountain biker, but his presence totally detracted from race calls IMO. my guess is that b/c red bull super mega founding HQ is in salzburg (down the street), he was invited in. imagine booting james stewart from the booth to be replaced by "insert any DH racer" to call the show at a supercross?
Was thinking Jackson's batting average must be pretty nuts. Checked Roots and Rain:
11 elite world cups entered
Top 5 in 7 of 11 or 64%
Won 4 of 11 or 36%
And likely doing so during the most competitive era the sport has ever had? And he was dealing with Appendix issue prior to season 1 and ACL recovery prior to season 3?
I'm going to pick "crucially" so I can be drunk before the junior women finish.
16th this round boys, let's gooooo
He's just there so he don't get fined
If you look at his entire racing history on Roots and Rain, they show results from 164 races he's entered since he was a little kid. He came in 1st in 55 of them: 34% .
GoPro knew he was something special when he was 10 years old. The description they posted on this video said, "Take a glimpse at the future of mountain biking with 10 year old phenom Jackson Goldstone."
The thing is given his 'edits' or what not, I think we were all 100% convinced Jackson was going freeride/slope route. At least for those of us not close to the scene.
I'm not sure when the timeline of switching to racing really swung over, but I was shocked when Jackson committed to DH. I thought he was going to be at most a free racer who would eventually drop out of racing for free ride only.
The crazy thing is... We all know he could have done either. It was basically just up to him. I'm not sure if there was any element of fr/slope that put Jackson off. Like... I recall him being capable. But not sure if he was ever big on spins/flips? It's clear big features don't scare him. Nor speed. Maybe he didn't commit to tricks early enough to want to go that route. But realistically... He could switch today, commit, and do well. No doubt.
I also kinda thought the same way when he started riding DH, but obviously it's something he's wants to do and is great at. If I had to wager maybe he's thinking race while he's young and then ease back into slope and freeride later. Kids and young guys these days are crazy talented and a fair amount of them aspirations in both DH and freeride it seems.
It's no substitute for talent, but is the fact that the kids growing into the sport over the last 10 years had access to some pretty amazing equipment a significant part of it too?
Wow, Nina, glad you're OK!
