I'm curious if Myriam will be lining up next week at Fort Bill. She just posted an update on her thumb injury two days ago (6 weeks post-op), but there was no mention of whether she's racing or not. I would absolutely love to see her back, even if she's still building back to form.
Sorry if this is dumb: I had the same surgery this winter and I think riding after 6 weeks would be possible as a pro with nothing to do but heal/recover, maybe, but would've been really on the edge. That track seems rough on the hands too, so I wouldn't expect much if she does race.
Not a dumb question at all. My answer is maybe. You’re right pros heal exponentially faster than us common folk. I could see her rolling down the track to get those valuable points just like slopestyle athletes sometimes do.
I’m not sure they heal faster, I think it’s more that they’re willing to take strong painkillers and risk re-injury or more long term side effects/pain compared to “us common folk”. The painkiller use in professional sports seems to be getting talked about more though, so hopefully that changes in the future.

UCI allows ex world champions to run stripes on their collar in the discipline they won the champs in perpetuity. To indicate they are one of the champions at some point.

For a lot of pros when they say painkiller they mean max dose of ibuprofen and Tylenol.
Man...in the late 90's, early 2000's when a pro contract had the rumour of 7 figure money b/c of Peaty, Palmer & Schley...SO, SO many dudes had the not so bright idea of having doctors rig a cast that had a hole to slide onto the bars to salvage points.
More than one of my buddies duct taped their fokking hand to the bar at various times.
Heck, I remember Steve...something from Cali came drove his old T100 all the way up to Mt. Snow, yanked a gap over a dip above the waterfall section, shoulder comes out of socket on the pull and lands backside with no shoulder. It gets slapped back into place by the fall & he gets up and finishes with it. HE said it did it multiple times but he was on the hunt for points & wasn't stopping. He'd worked all winter to save up for the year's racing.
Dudes at Alabama Bump & Grind had UCI points and Todd Bosch & 2 others disintegrated arms & shoulders on a tiny DH hunting UCI points. They would roll/walk down in slings just to stop the clock to get a UCI point.
I can't imagine the "ibuprofen/tylenol" thing being the fullest extent people go to now. It's got to be way more than just some OTC pills and a tough mindset.

A five-year contract? I wish I were a fly on the wall for those talks. For someone with his capabilities, it seems weird to get locked in for that long?
I think it's for the 2023 - 2030 seasons, so an 8 year contract.
Mtb is a dangerous sport. If the pay is good and decently guaranteed it seems like a no brainer for rider. And for a guy as talented and well known as Jackson it seems like a no brainer for a brand.
At face value, I totally agree. But what I’m curious about is if his pay is locked in for all of those years, or are there adjustments to be made based on performance and if the brand is doing well…?
Santa Cruz was conspicuously absent from Sea Otter.
I wouldn't read too much into their SO absence, PON didn't really need to show up. I'm almost positive none of the PON owned brands exhibited there.
I would bet a LOT of (internet) money there's a guaranteed base salary with hefty performance increases and win/podium bonuses in there.

Santa Cruz clearly sees Goldstone as the #1 rider on the Syndicate and are focusing the team around him for the long term. Makes sense to lock him in.
