After the winter Canada some of the US has been having, expect to see some entries in the newest XGames events this year, Real Snow(less) skiing and snowboarding!

Rear tyre clearance springs to mind with those spikes. How many spare rear triangles will be needed when they start buzz sawing through them?

for sure. I'll watch a lot when it's the best in the world. High stakes poker and darts make the cut, of course racing DH bikes down ski runs does...we're even going to watch the Superbowl this weekend!  ...got a Swiftie in the house but still

Outspoken as always, Loic Bruni has made his position clear on how he thinks this new discipline compares to good old biking on dirt:

I’m surprised that’s his take given that this event is much more likely to get in the Olympics than traditional DH as all the infrastructure is already in place for the much larger ski events. But hey only “grow the sport” if it benefits him directly. 

He is saying it’s not the sport of mountain biking, so “grow the sport” doesn’t apply in his eyes. I agree, it is not really mountain biking even though they are riding mountain bikes. Having this in the Olympics is not going to help downhill mountain biking beyond crossover racers’ name recognition with the layman.

I'm just glad to see so many entrants from all over the world.  Or at least the world according to the UCI 

the reality nowadays is that being in the olympics as a "new" sport, a non legacy sport only causes pain and issues in those sports. Many of the legacy sports need the Olympics to justify existence as world level sport. But the Olympics needs these new and 'cool' sports to stay relevant.

See ski-cross, BMX supercross, BMX freestyle, flag football, surfing etc...

The concept is basic super g/slalom skiing with bikes instead. The live commentary made the current World Cup DH commentary sound riveting...

Scrolled down the comments on the Instagram page and couldn't find a single positive comment...

The main problem with this type of racing is that you have to be sponsored by a ski resort in order to train for it (Chatel doesn't even allow bike access to the south facing slopes which currently have no snow). Vinny T and Pierre T both had access to the slope to train on for weeks prior to this race. Henry Kerr is the real champ considering he has no real practice!

Definitely did not have nearly enough spice. Marlon Blando. Flat out foot out speed in slow motion, fine, but really they could’ve done so much more…washboard whoops, a couple drops, 30 foot tall berms (even with the background looking very green and brown)…classic UCI—maybe this was their way of saying, “see?—we can’t produce an event, that’s why we need Warner Bros!” Suck on purpose to prove it needs help, a real life bike Producers…At any rate: Blando Calrissian. A sickening lack of spice. You can do so much with snow compared to dirt…this thing could’ve been a Dr Seuss level course, instead it was red spray paint and blue spray paint? Bran flakes. 

I want to hear more about the spikes, too. 
 

Im confident I could’ve put on a better snow DH race. And I’ve never organized a ride with more than four people. 
 

Embarrassing for the UCI (if that’s possible anymore). Embarrassing for anyone with a rainbow striped jersey. It diminishes Bruni’s, I can see why he’s unhappy. 
 

And the dual slalom made regular dual slalom look like…dual slalom. Oof. 
 

where'd this come from anyway? it's not like there was some grassroots explosion of snowbiking, or even, any, anywhere, at all, let alone competitive for a world champs.
