rampage was better when it was about technicality and raw lines. Now it’s just a massive slopestyle huckfest that leaves people battered. The wind is a major issue every year. There’s surely a better way to highlight the best of the best.
Wind has always been an issue. Hitting big stuff like that, wind always makes things tough.
The reason it is more pronounced now is the TV schedule. There have always been delays due to wind and judging but 10 years ago, it was not broadcast live and less time restrictions on the riders to drop so everyone was able to get 2 runs.
welp, no need for coffee this morning! that was intense!
@t-dawg, where's this slowmo of gee's crash?
The IG post looks like it's in slow mo from how long he hangs in the air. Insane how long he is in the air.. you can almost see the effects of wind and such as he drifts down.
Nukeproof has a rider at Rampage for the first time ever, check out this super sick custom Dissent they created for DJ Brandt:
-------------------------------------------------
We're sending DJ Brandt to Red Bull Rampage with a one-of-a-kind Nukeproof Dissent downhill bike inspired by DJ's favorite hip-hop groups. Flatbush Zombies, $uicideboy$, and Mac Miller adorn the hand-painted freeride rig. This Dissent carbon frame features a bold design, incorporating Flatbush Zombies lyrics throughout its frame. Huge thanks to Jonathan Bradley at Elite Refinish for the excellent paintwork. The bike's striking graphics pay homage to the street aesthetic while maintaining a sleek and functional build, ensuring it's not only visually distinctive but also Rampage-ready. With a smoked-out paintjob, this bike brings DJ’s unique style to the world's biggest freeride event.

For Gee's drop he would have hit the landing with 40mph of vertical velocity, which is pretty hefty.
For anyone interested I assumed that he travelled 23m as it looks like he overshot by about 10 feet and it measured 20m in the Red Bull video, the angle of the drop from the video comes out as 36 degrees from vertical, so he's falling 18.6m, I included air resistance assuming the drag to be between 2 to 3 times that of a skydiver and with him and the bike weighing 100kg, this takes only 2 to 3 mph off his impact velocity compared to having no drag. Even if the angle measurement is plus or minus 2 degrees off it'll only widen the range of accuracy by 1mph, so basically he lands with a vertical velocity of 40.5mph +/- 1mph. Also his about 5mph of vertical velocity he has coming down off the top can be ignored as even though you might think it just adds on to his impact velocity it actually means he's in the air for less time to accelerate, so almost exactly cancels out at this speed.
I have zero desire to fact check what you just typed.
I just want to believe that sequence of sentences is so far past being able to B.S.
You just provided us with the ESPN Sports Science breakdown of Rampage.
Fantastic. Spomer...he needs to write the article. Gotta make it happen. New weekly column.
Gee's idea of injuries that are 'not to bad tho' is different than most Happy to hear he's on the mend and sounds like he'll make a full recovery. What a beast.

i work in orthopedics, and while his injuries aren't trivial, they don't seem awful (based on the minimal information he has shared)
Yeah, Brendog's guinnea of the canyon was insane. Can't wait to see some riders hit the battleship. Bren's run is stacking up to be iconic.
And I can already see Brendog got robbed comments as it might happen with 20% being tricks and people are already throwing double backflips in training. In the other sites video Bender said it as it is: "This part of the course is slopestyle, that one is freeride". Both being in the same competition makes is practically impossible to judge equaly/fairly. I believe that the Brendogs line represents what rampage is all about, his battle is with the mountain, not the judges.
I landed to flat once when a crank snapped onto my chest. Strain from tensing up so hard to brace for the crash (which cracked my 2nd rip across from my heart) caused me to tear tissue in my throat and cough blood.
Got checked for a punctured lung but was like him. Fine, but just couldn't talk from straining my throat so hard in the impact tensing up.
Five minutes after watching that and my hands are still sweating.
I would love to see a rampage winning run that DOESNT include flippy spinny things. Seems like if brendog can put it all together he may have a chance.

the comments on that other website are too funny, they probably still wear a mask when they leave their house.

Nobody makes the most gnarly $hit look as easy to guineapig as Brendog! #allhailbrendog

Happy to hear he's on the mend and sounds like he'll make a full recovery. What a beast.
I worry that he walks around with a thumb up but doesn't even know his hand is doing it.
It's just an unconscious tick at this point.
But seriously...love that dude, but I feel guilty even watching a post of his any more.
Like I'm the one jinxing him.

Bienve paying his dues:

The Battleship Lilly Pad has been guinea-pigged by Godziek....
NO WAY!!! that is so terrifying!
Brendog battleship POV. If his run comes together...
I quite literally almost puked my coffee up when he cased it.
Five minutes after watching that and my hands are still sweating.

That is just NASTY!
