Ronan Dunne is running an air shock on his, and he certainly ain’t slow. Also air makes more sense to the mass market rather than ship each size with a set spring rate and hope it works

My guess would be that the suntour made fork & shock body were the cheapest/easiest to source and that the internals are a completely custom affair...

I'd be surprised if this is any more than a rebranding exercise, new internals are expensive and would make servicing more cumbersome. It does look a bit different to DVOs current offering though...
In college, I lived relatively close to Cane Creek's HQ when the original double barrel was created. I was fortunate enough to ride with a bunch of riders that were the first to get the shock, at that time North Carolina had multiple National Champions in DH and Slalom and they were all running the DB. Gerritt Beytagh even had a one-off itty bitty DB on his slalom bike. Ohlins US headquarters is in Hendersonville NC which is about 20 minutes from Cane Creek's HQ in Fletcher. I also seem to remember that Luca Shaw's dad worked for Ohlins USA, but I am not sure if that had any bearing on the collaboration between the 2 companies.
I also did a trail ride a couple of years ago with an engineer from Cane Creek and he told me they have a room at their HQ that has all the prototype shocks they've built over the years. He said they have several Pull shock prototypes that were similar to the FOX Dyad shocks that were on Cannondale's and Scott's. It came down to Fox and Cane Creek as to which company would be the OE shock supplier for those bikes. He said the Department of Defense also contracted them to build a Double Barrel that was 100% waterproof and meant to be used on unmanned armed drone boats that would patrol ports and shorelines.
What looks to be new on the prototype? I'm on their 161 and love it.
Yeah, I love my 161 but interested to see what they have in the works. I popped by the US HQ in Boulder a few months ago and they said v2 is in the works probably be ready for orders in September.
Pretty funny how Vergier's running an O-chain on a bike with an idler pulley and very low pedal kickback to begin with. Not trying to start discourse again; just an observation.

Depending on which idler size you have on the Trek session it changes how many degree of pedal kick, also which rear cog your in. I’ve tried the bike with and without oChain and it’s a noticeable difference in feedback to your feet and the bike feeling more “free”. It might not even be feedback from chain growth, but separating the feel from chain to your cranks and pedal.
On a DH bike I think it’s still an advantage to using oChain. The only negative is the slop as you pedal forward.
What’s with the unfashionably long bolt going thru the direct mount thing? Seems like some kind of bodge
It's an adjustable chainstay length set bolt for going single speed. Or just to adjust chainstay length to one's preference (within a certain range of course).

If I could convince myself I only need 1 mountain bike I could probably justify however much this thing costs. Hmmmmm...sell a few bikes and build one to rule them all?
